As the year starts to wind down there are many of youwho made a great difference this year to the RMJC. I’llstart off with the Board meeting at Claudia Hummel’shome in February. She and Frank prepared the greatestMexican food and drinks for Board’s members andattendee’s enjoyment. The margaritas were homemadeany extremely tasteful. I think all the Board Memberswere in attendance despite the weather was a bit cool---22below zero when we headed home. It was a great start forthe Board on a night when I didn’t think many wouldshow up. The margaritas seem to work as anti-freeze.The Hummels entered in the Concours d’Elegence andattended most of our events during the year. Thank youClaudia and Frank for everything you did.

Frank and Jean Oakley gladly volunteered to hold theApril Board Meeting when Cyndi Mumm dropped out ofthat obligation to take on the Annual Summer Party.Finding the Oakley’s home is not the easiest thing to dobut eventually we all made it. Jean with only one hand towork with that night (the other was in a cast) and Frankprepared an excellent meal for us. Frank was one of thebiggest supporters of the Slalom Event as he helpedprepare the course and policed the entrants as we tried tomake it around the track. Frank was an entrant as well asa judge for the Concours d’ Elegance. Frank is always atall the events and ready to work if needed. Thank YouFrank.

Dennis Orr, the father of the President’s Dinner @ MountVernon CC, along with Judy set up wonderful all you caneat King Crab Dinner for us in March. As President Ididn’t have to do anything but show up and eat. It wasgreat to see so many British ties at the dinner as shown onthe front of the April Cat Tales. Dennis along with DaveDougan put on the Spring Dust Off and he and Judy heldthe June Board Meeting at their home. It was one of thoselovely evenings with a huge attendance, outstandingweather and food and drinks for a warm summer’s gettogether. Dennis was also a Judge for the Concours d’Elegance and entered his 1973 ser 1 XJ6 (See the frontpage of the August Cat Tales). Thanks Dennis!

Charlie Scott, a member of the Board, took on the biggestevent we have each year with his wife Valerie. Yes, theywith Cyndi Mumm put on the Concours d’Elegance in

July at The Inn at Palmer Divide. Up in the beautifulfoothills near the city of Palmer Lake, with the entire Innreserved just for the RMJC, they put on a spectacularthree day event that we will all remember for a long time.Their big deal was that they were able to show the clubtheir XKE completely restored, and after only thirteen(13) years of restoration. What a Car----it won thePeoples Choice Award hands down. Thank You!!

Don Leach our lone bachelor (or is that lonely bachelor?)about town was a very active Board Member. Don is therepresentative for our club to what was the Old CarCouncil but is now called the Collector Car Council ofColorado, Inc. Don not only attended our BoardMeetings, our General Meetings, but attended mostCCCC Meetings as well. He kept us all informed on theiractives and their lobbyist work with the State Legislature. That is two to three meetings each month and we reallythank Don for his tireless work on our behalf. In additionDon worked on the Colfax Cruise jointly with CCCC andthe RMJC. Don regularly attended all the clubs eventsincluding the Concours. Don entered the United CerebralPalsy Show (check out his beautiful Jaguar on the front ofthe Cat Tales in July). We want to congratulate Don forstepping (or being dragged) forward and agreeing to Chairthe Concours d’ Elegance at Copper Mountain next year.“Thank You” Don!!

As you can see the Board of Directors really helped medirect the Rocky Mountain Jaguar Club through his year.Along with the Board Members-At-Large are the Officersthat added to my success. Your Vice-President SteveKennedy who sells everything Jaguar you would everwant to buy and those raffle tickets at all the meetings, isalways in the thick of everything. He and Deanie arealways at everything and ready to do whatever needs to bedone. He came to the slaloms, never raced, but helped putup and tear down all the equipment, tents, chairs, cones,etc……...Steve was my go-to-guy if I had no idea where Iwas going or what I needed to do next. After beingPresident of the JCNA he got to take it a little easier thisyear, although he and Deanie worked hard to represent usin March at the JCNA Annual General Meeting back inVirginia. Thanks Steve!!

Marty Cohen, our Secretary forever it seems like, got allthe information of the meetings and posted it so we allcould keep up to date with all the events of the club.Everyone would like to “ThankYou” for a job well doneyear after year. You were very clever to get Gordon totake notes in you absence. I think you were training himfor the job next year…..and it worked, see below.

(cont. from Page 3)Marty became a real racer this year at the Slaloms. Heearned the most improved driver award according to BobGrossman. We will look for you again at the next year’sSlalom Events. Marty, Thank You.

Our money man, Treasurer Rob van Westenberg, kept ussolvent all year even after all his warnings that we weregoing broke. Rob changed banks for us this year and wasable to save us some money by avoiding the bank chargesby our previous bank (US Bank). We now have ouraccounts at The Bank of Choice. They have branches allover the Denver Metro area. Rob’s other jobs with theRMJC are as Kitty Litter Editor and RMJC Web Master. He keeps us up to date and well informed between ourmeetings and the publishing of the Cat Tales each month.Rob also handles the PayPal for our events as well aschecks and cash as it comes in. Rob was a judge for ourConcours as well as the Chief Judge for the JCSCConcours in October. He participated in the RMJCConcours with two vehicles and he finally got out to theSlalom course this year. Thanks Rob.

These Board Members and Officers have kept me in thegame for the entire year and deserve my undyinggratitude. Thank You one and all; however, there areothers that have contributed to our successful year. DaveDougan, the Event Chairman for the Spring Dust-Off inMay…..remember the Rain and Snow…..but we all had awonderful time going up in the mountains for a nice driveand an excellent stop for great drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Then we turned on our fog lights and headed down for adelightful lunch at Mount Vernon C.C. Thanks Dave.

Ray Horrall, the Cat Tales Newsletter Editor, has one ofthe toughest jobs in the club. We all appreciate the CatTales getting out each month with all the information heputs into the newsletter. Ray not only did the Cat Talesbut was personally at most events taking pictures andgetting the full story, besides actively participating in theevents. Ray entered or attended the following: The DustOff, The President’s Dinner, the UCP Show, The AnnualSummer Party, both Slaloms, the Colfax Cruise, Ride theRockies and English Motoring Conclave, JCSC Concours, and coming up The Christmas Party, along with theattending the Board and General Meetings. We crossedhim up on the Concours by moving it to July when healready had a vacation in Europe planned. Ray from allthe club members “Thank You” for the great job you didthis year.

Gary George, our Chief Judge since before I joined theRMJC back in 1991, held two wonderful judges classes

this year. We had 18 to 20 at the first meeting thatincluded four from JCSC. Gary got a very nice room atClub Auto for the training where we spent about fourhours boning up on all the new and old rules for judgingthe Concours. Between the two clubs we have a very nicegroup of Certified Judges ready to go for the next threeyears. Gary was very detailed in the sessions and we allfelt like we were really ready to judge Jaguar cars. I haveto mention all of the work Gary does on the Conclaveeach and every year. That is a big event and Gary hasdone this for as many years as I have known him. ThanksGary!!

Gordon Kenny is always there when you need him. Hegives us a yearly overview of the past year and howthings turned out. From time to time he has specialpresentations for us. that are remarkable. He has filled infor Marty, as secretary, on several occasions and I think itearned him the new job of Secretary for next year. Buthis last idea seems to be something we will all love overthe years as he uses his new HDMI/VGA (as you know Ihave no idea what that is) to show pictures and events instill, motion, and with sound. It is good to have smartpeople like Gordon in the club to help me keep up to date. Thanks Gordon!!

Bob & Pat Grossman were always there either heading upan event or just helping everybody out with theirs. Theywere the real set up and judging members of the Slalomevents at Front Range Airport. They also bought most ofthe equipment for the races, and they always hadeverything anyone might need. By the time I got therearound 8AM at the first slalom this year they had thecourse set up and were in the process of making sure thetiming equipment was working. The participation thisyear was just a little less than double that of last year. This slalom thing is really catching on. Bob & Pat alwaysseem to be at all the events and lending a helping hand. Then later in the year they volunteered to put on the FallDrive. Pat set it up on a Saturday instead of Sunday likein years past. She explained that Sunday was a Broncosgame and she didn’t want me, the president, to miss eitherthe game or the drive. Well when I got up that morningwe had 4 inches of snow on the ground, but Pat said theDrive was still on. We had a rather unusual drive not inthe mountains as planned but on the plains of northernColorado. We went to the Wild Life Park up by Hudson, but after about three or four miles on a very muddy roadwe found the Park closed. We did have a stop in Hudsonat a gas station for a quick drink and a restroom break. Then on to an outstanding lunch at Abrusci’s ItalianEatery. Thank You Bob & Pat!!

(cont. from Page 5)Deanie Kennedy, the Membership Chairman of bothRMJC and Membership Chairman for the JCNA has donethose jobs and so much more. She helps organize, setsthings up, tears things down, scores events and alwaysfeeds us at all the events. She also participates in all theactivities that go on. For instance she is now a regularloose nut behind the wheel at the Slaloms, a highlycompetitive entrant in the Concours, and glad to have anyand all meetings at her home. In fact the next BoardMeeting will be at the Kennedy’s December 6th and wehope all the Board Members including those newlyelected ones will be in attendance. Deanie always attendsall the events, and is a genuinely nice helpful person to bearound. Without Deanie this club would not be what it istoday. There are so many things that Deanie does, that Ican only begin to tell you , and don’t know where to end, except to say “Thank You” Deanie for all that you do,

Cyndi Mumm has been the one who guided me throughthis year with kindness, understanding, and realhelpfulness when I needed it the most. As Past Presidentshe seems to know it all and is glad to pass it on. Cyndiand Howard put on the Annual Summer Party at theirhome and what a success it was. It was the biggestattendance we have had in a number of years. Right afterthe party she got with Valerie and Charlie and I would sayco-sponsored the Concours d’Elegance. I know Valeriesaid her help was invaluable in making it all work so well.

Cyndi was the one who worked with the Front RangeAirport on the great contract we got for the Slaloms. Sheand Howard took that XK8 out and had two outstanding

days on the slalom course. She continued her work fromlast year with the Denver Roundtable putting on TheDrive For The Kids. She and I attended meetings beforethe drive to help organize the event and after the event westarted work for next year. Cyndi sold tickets at one of ourmeetings for the Drive For The Kids raffle. The BronzeSculptor they were raffling was won by a ticket she sold….Yes, Don Leach did get the beautiful Sculpture.

Cyndi Mumm has been President of the RMJC for twoterms, Past President and a Board Member this year andnext year First Lady of the RMJC. This true lady and myfriend has been the backbone of the club for the last threeyears with at least one more to go with Howard becomingpresident. Thank You, Cyndi for all the help you havegiven me during my term as president and please don’tslow down now.

This is my last President’s Column and I want tocongratulate the new Officers and Board Members andwish them all the luck in the world. I have really enjoyedmy term as your president. I tried to be at all the eventsthis year to represent the Rocky Mountain Jaguar Cluband help out in any way I could. Thank you for theopportunity of letting me serve as your president.

Don’t forget if you get to the Loews Denver for theChristmas Party between 3:30 and 5PM stop by my suitefor a drink….. See you at the Party……………..Gene

PS: I need Patty, Ms Gavel & their Home so I can passthem on to the new President, Howard Mumm!!!!PLEASE

To begin with, November was entirely enjoyable if a littleuneventful. If you missed the November GeneralMeeting, there being no opposition nor additionalcandidates from the floor, the Nominees as proposed bythe Election Committee and published in the Cat Taleswere accepted by unanimous acclamation as the 2012RMJC Board Of Directors. Onward to upcoming events!

December has the BOD Meeting at the Kennedys andthe RMJC Holiday Party at the Loews Denver Hotel. Ihope to see all of you there. I’ll be taking photos asusual, so expect to see the January Issue full ofpictures. Speaking of which, Gordon Kenney has askedfor copies for the usual RMJC 2011 Year Retrospective

at the February General Meeting. Be there if you want tosee what or who you missed, or whether you werecaught in any compromising positions, such as with aCrappy Cat Candidate.

Two things are set up already. Our RMJC AnnualConcours d’ Elegance will be at the Copper MountainResort this year, so we will get to enjoy a mountainvenue, and the Combined JCNA AGM/WSM (AnnualGeneral Meeting / Western States Meeting) has beensent to Newsletter Editors and is contained herein, to beheld in early March in Phoenix Arizona. From just that, Iwould say next year is shaping up to big for us, right outof the chute. (Good Western terminology there, hmm?)

So, don’t get too lax, expect good things are comingyour way, and you won’t be disappointed. And have aHappy Holiday, whatever your persuasion.

And... I’ll be seeing you. (The proof is in the pictures!)

Monthly Meeting at Picclo's

November 8th, 2011 Monthly RMJC Meeting at Piccolo’s

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 pm by PresidentGene Cookenboo with thirty members present. Althoughhe had received a letter from Ms. Gavel and Paddy (seeNov. newsletter, p 12) he had to conduct the meeting witha lesser gavel.

He welcomed the good turn-out which included Bill andWanda Privratsky, a couple who had been club membersyears earlier but came to get reacquainted with the club. They have had a 72 XKE Roadster for twenty-two yearsand are looking for other Jaguars to buy and drive.

Rob van Westenberg gave a treasurers report; anyoneinterested in more detail should look in the newsletter orcontact him for specifics.

Past minutes as published in the November newsletterwere approved.

The Saturday, Dec, 10th Holiday Party at Loews wasdiscussed. This included the availability of overnightrooms at a discount and the afternoon cocktail party inGene’s room from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.

The annual election of officers was held. There were noadditional nominees to the ballot as published and none ofthem were opposed. It was moved to accept the ballot byacclamation and the motion passed; the officers for 2012are as listed on the ballot in the November newsletter.

Gene reported that the Sept. 10th “Drive for the Kids”event had 38 cars on the drive and more people joined thegroup at the Unser raceway for dinner. Several RMJCmembers participated and more than $25,000 was raisedfor the Children’s Hospital Sports Program.

The next Board of Directors meeting is at the Kennedyson Tuesday, Dec. 6th and should be attended by all pastand new members of the board. A Kitty Litter will besent out with their new address and the telephone numberto RSVP.

Gene passed around a flyer from a Jaguar parts supplier inChicago who is offering a 20% discount to any JaguarClub member. He can be reached at 866-342-1684 ore-mail to [email protected].

Program: In recent weeks Gordon purchased a devicethat converts the High Definition (HDMI) digital signalfrom ports on “smart” cell phones to an analog VGAsignal that can be projected by the clubs video projector. He used this device and his phone to give a 30 minute“sampler” video demonstration. Links to web sites wereused to show films of Lindberg taking off in New York in1927 for his historic flight and then a film clip from theearly 1900’s of Henry Ford’s model “T” production lines.“U Tube” sources were used to show video clips from arace track where a Lotus Elise easily caught and passed aFerrari that had twice the horsepower. The “photo”application on the phone was used to show “static”photos, and how to put several photos into a playlist toeasily make a slide show. Then he showed a short videoclip he had made just minutes before of Gene talking withour new guests. Another piece showed a sports carnewsletter that had been received as a pdf attachment toan e-mail. The “map” application was used to show howa club destination can be show on a large map thenzoomed in for street-by-street detail to help in theplanning of club drives. These various program segments were used to show thegeneral membership how they can use their smart phonesto bring interesting photo and video reports to clubmeetings. Don’t send such items to Gordon but bringyour phone to the meeting and he will assist you inshowing them.

Raffle tickets were sold, winners selected and prizesawarded. Gene then announced member birthdays andcake was enjoyed by all. Meeting adjourned at 9:00 pm.

Submitted by Gordon K. for Secretary Marty Cohen._________________________________________________

Jaguar Club of Central Arizona combines the AGMand Western States into Super-event by MarkStephenson, AGM/WS2012 Co-chair

If you missed the 2003 Challenge Championshipwith its great social events, the 2005 wherethe new XK was unveiled for the first time inNorth America at the posh Chateau Elan, or the2007 with the lap of the Indianapolis MotorSpeedway and the slalom right next to GasolineAlley, the team that put those events togetherhas come out of retirement to double down on adouble event -- the AGM and Western States2012. This is your chance to experience whateveryone raved about.

The time and place couldn't be better. March 6,2012, when it feels like Winter will never end, rays of warmth will emanate from the Valley ofthe Sun and beckon all Jaguar owners to meltthe icicles of cold, gray doldrums. It's anescape, a vacation, a chance to meet oldfriends and make new ones while experiencingthe grandeur and history of last of the 48contiguous states to be admitted to the unionin its centennial year.

A year shy of its centennial is our host hotel, the oldest of the grand Arizona resorts, theSan Marcos (www.sanmarcosresort.com). The roomsare magnificent and the location, just a fewminutes from both Phoenix Sky Harbor Airportand Mesa Gateway Airport makes an ideal basefor exploring Arizona, even if you aren'tbringing Jaguars or voting instructions fromyour club. If you are from the West or Midwest, check on booking your flight on Allegiant Air.They have incredibly low fares into Mesa-Gate-way. San Marcos rooms are normally $189 in thehigh season, but we have negotiated an aston-ishingly low rate of $109 for the spaciousstandard rooms. (Mention "Jaguar Club" fordiscount.) Suites have similar discounts. Notonly famous for the celebrities who have stayedthere, the San Marcos boasts the oldest grassgolf course in the state. It will be the siteof the first AGM golf tournament. Make a Hole-in-One on the 147-yard unlucky 13th hole andyou've won yourself a new Jaguar. But that's

not the only driving you'll have a chance todo.

Tuesday, March 6, the two-day Ghost Town andGrand Canyon Tour opens the festivities. Youmay have driven to the Grand Canyon before buteven if you live here, it's doubtful thatyou've gone via a ghost town, a collapsed mine, the old territorial capitol, and colorfulplaces like Whiskey Row, the Flagstone Capitolof the World, and Route 66. Tourers will maketheir own hotel arrangements Wednesday night atthe Frey Marcos Hotel in Williams, AZ, orelsewhere if they choose. If the group issmaller, we'll make eating decisions on thefly. Larger, and we'll set things up in ad-vance. Hertz has a rental site at the SanMarcos and we have negotiated special rates, soflying out won't prevent you from making thetrip and rental will be far cheaper than at theairport. (Route may be adjusted depending onweather conditions.) E-mail Mark Stephenson, tour organizer, at [email protected] for moreinformation.

Thursday is Track Day. JCNA has some insuranceissues with events at racing facilities, sothis will be on your own. We have tentativelyorganized a couple events and feedback is mostwelcome. The Bondurant School of High Perfor-mance Driving (www.bondurant.com) is where thepros go to improve their skills. I've done athree-day course there and it was the most I'veever learned about something I thought I knew alot about. This one-day course covers the samematerial, only quicker. I had a couple big ahamoments before I ever got behind the wheel. Youmay have no intention of racing, but you willcome out of the Intro to Racing Course, a much, much better street driver. Cost is $1375 (less10% if we get more than 10). Avoid one acci-dent, something I did about six months after mycourse, and you've paid for it in money, time, hassle, and injury. That evening you can prac-tice your newly-learned skills in the 100 mphBondurant Shifter Karts if the group is small,or single-speed, 50 mph Pro Karts if the groupis larger than a dozen. Price depends on howmany people we have and which karts we use. Both are a blast. Again, e-mail Mark Stephensonat [email protected] with feedback and for com-plete details.

The aforementioned Golf Tournament will be ashotgun start on Friday morning followed bylunch. Relax, shop, whatever on Friday after-noon, then prepare to kick up your heels at theAGM Roundup Dinner at Rawhide Wild West Town(www.rawhide.com).

OK, sorry, on Saturday, if you're a delegate, you have to do some work. It's AGM day. Thegreat news is that the AGM Banquet Saturdaynight marks the end of the AGM and the beginningof the Western States. With the overlap of thetwo events, we're expecting over 300 JCNA mem-bers, making it the largest gathering of itstype in JCNA history (we believe). If you won aJCNA continental or regional award, show upbecause chances are you'll never receive as muchadulation for your accomplishments as you willat this AGM banquet. We've kept the meal costlow and are losing money on every plate becausewe don't want the cost to prevent people fromattending. Thank the sponsors for making thispossible.

Sunday, it's all Western States with what wehope will be the largest display of Jaguars inone place in 2012. If you're a serious concourscompetitor, have your car judged. If you want tokick back, relax, talk to a few of the thousandsof spectators and soak up some rays, just dis-play your car. We don't care because we have anulterior motive. Not only do we want to fill thesite with Jaguars, but with sufficient sponsor-ship, we're making the concours a full CharityEvent. Every Jaguar you show helps Jaguars inthree ways. At least $25 of each Concours entryfee will be donated to the Northern JaguarProject (www.northernjaguarproject.org). NJP isa Tucson-based organization that buys Jaguarhabitat in northern Mexico. You may not knowthat Jaguars once roamed our area. Every fewyears, one is spotted this side of the border, acouple hundred miles away. On the NJP site, theyhave some incredible remote-camera photos ofJaguars and other indigenous creatures in theirpreserve just a hundred miles south of theborder. McPherson College (www.mcpherson.edu)has the only four-year, accredited, auto resto-ration program in the country. They will receiveat least $20 of the entry fee. The remaining $8,after the brunch cost, will go to ICAN(www.icanaz.org), a Chandler charity dedicatedto providing after-school programs for at-riskyouth. We'll invite them to the show, introduceto Jaguars and ask them to stream through theconcours site after we're done to clean up. Withyour entries and additional donations on theentry form, we're creating a future for Jaguars, classic Jaguars, and Jaguar. So that you canclaim the charitable donation deduction, we'llbe including a letter listing each entrant'sdonations in your registration paperwork. Theeventful day will end with us serenaded by thesoothing acoustic strings of Mariachis at our

Bajo las Estrellas de Sonora (Under the SonoraStars) Dinner.

Monday we return to the road to experience the 5C's of Arizona, Copper, Cattle, Cotton, Citrus, and Climate, along with some of the most ruggedterrain in the Southwest, on the picturesque 5C's Rally and Tour. We end the day with what Ithink will be the most memorable evening of theweek as we relive the British Invasion. A liveband will be playing the hits of the swingin'sixties from the Stones, the Turtles, Yardbirds,Peter and Gordon, the Kinks, the Dave ClarkFive, and lots from the Beatles. I've heard theband covering the Beatles tunes and if you closeyour eyes, it could be a live performance fromthe Fab Four.

We're still behind the wheel Tuesday, for thefastest-growing event in JCNA competition -- theslalom. That night we close the week's festivi-ties with the Western States 2012 Awards Ban-quet. It's more great food and wonderful companyand we'll be handing out all the Meet Awards. Itwill be a relaxing night to look back upon theevents of the week and plan to keep in touchwith new friends, old friends, and show up atthe next AGM, Challenge Championship, and West-ern States.

The Jaguar Club of Central Arizona hopes thatour wide range of events will make this anunforgettable Jaguar Vacation. We have so muchin store, consider it a cruise without the boat. One of the things I'm doing that I hope willcontribute to the success of the event is orga-nizing feeder routes from around the continentto the Valley of the Sun. I'm hoping I can finddrivers in the Southeast, the Mid-AtlanticStates, the Intermountain West, the Heartland, the Pacific Northwest, California, and even theUpper Midwest and New England (despite yuckyweather)... if I can find drivers in each ofthose areas to organize regional meeting points, and have those meeting points feed into majorcontinental routes, meeting with other regionalgroups along the way, JCNA could have convoys ofJaguars converging on Phoenix. A pipe dreamperhaps, but it could become a reality. Our clubcan get at least 35 Jaguars to the concoursgrounds. We have a commitment from SouthwestRegional Director Tom Krefetz for an additionaltwenty cars, hopefully a bunch of those fromMexico City, because those guys are a hoot toparty with.

Page 15: Cat Tales Dec 2011 Final - JCNA Tales Dec 2011 Final.pdf · Council but is now called the ... actives and their lobbyist work with the State Legislature. That is two to three meetings

I think we should be able to get, and I chal-lenge the closer clubs and farther regions toget the following numbers of cars to the event:Jaguar Club of Southern Arizona (an hour or soaway): 10 Jaguar Club of Northern Arizona (acouple hours away): 7 Jaguar Owners Club: 10Inland Empire Jaguar Club: 5 Jaguar AssociateGroup: 5 Rocky Mountain Jaguar Club: 5 WasatchMountain Jaguar Register: 4 Jaguar Owners Clubof Oregon: 4 Washington and British ColumbiaJaguar Clubs: 10 combined (with Art Dickenson'shelp)

At the 2003 Challenge Championship in Phoenix, the Texas and Oklahoma clubs were woefullyunderrepresented. If everything's BIG in Texas,it would be fantastic if you could generate aBIG turnout. Can you get ten Jaguars to theconcours? I know there are some serious driversin Florida and would love to see a five-carentourage pick up a JCNA member or two in Loui-siana before meeting up with a huge Texas con-tingent.

Carolina drivers would pass through Atlanta. Ifwe could get a couple intrepid souls from the"far East" maybe they could start a snowballthat would gain a couple more from the NorthGeorgia Jaguar Club and build momentum meetingup with a couple cars each from the Kansas Cityand St. Louis clubs and five from the Oklahomaclubs. If they all met at the I-10/I-20 junctionin west Texas, we'd have about 30 Jaguars con-voying toward Phoenix. That would be impressive.

I understand that we won't get more than two orthree cars from the Northeast and North Centralregions. It's a long drive and the weather couldbe lousy, but there are 22 clubs which is poten-tially 44 delegates. Why not drive? Yeah, itmight take a little longer, but you avoid intru-sive airport searches, lost luggage, missedconnections, etc. and you'll have a really coolcar to drive when you get to Arizona. We don'thave a magazine called Arizona Highways becausewe have boring roads. If you're concerned aboutthe weather, head south and meet the I-20 con-tingent.

I'm willing to coordinate all this, so if youhave even the slightest inkling of an idea thatyou might possibly consider driving or traile-ring your Jaguar to the AGM / Western Statescontact me at [email protected]. I'll get a con-tact list started so that people can contacteach other and meet along the way. If you'venever done an extended tour with a bunch ofJaguar people, it is one of the most fun experi-

ences you can have. Just ask the folks who tookthe week-long Southwest Oil Leak tour this fall.

Add it all up, and you have over 140 Jaguarsshowing up for a week of incredible Jaguar funin the Valley of the Sun. And won't you North-erners need a little sun by early March? Justthink, when you depart March 14, spring will bedays away.

See you in Phoenix

Well folks, as we settle into the winter season, and prepare for the excitement of the holidays, it seems a pleasantdiversion to dream ahead to the RMJC Concours next summer, June 29-July 1. But also, I wish to report progress fromthe arduous and diligent research by the Concours Committee, who spent the last weekend of August at CopperMountain. Speaking of, herein the Cat Tales it always says “with some help from his friends” after my name asConcours Chair. This is absolutely essential, because otherwise appointing me as an event planner would be kind oflike asking your plumber to perform a root canal. So hey, roots are roots, right ?!?!? It is indeed a delight tocollaborate with Mumm’s and Claudia Hummel, and to regularly be propped up by them. Many Thanks !!

We have confirmed that Copper Mountain Resort has appropriate and attractive venues for meet & greet, banquets, brunches and just hanging out to imbibe refreshing libations. Areas available for the concours display are ample andscenic, and will likely remind some of the fond and fragrant memories from Winter Park ’07. The glorious settingreminds us that it is indeed a pleasure and privilege to live in Colorado.

Available rooms are welcoming, warm, and furnished as expected for a mountain resort. Categories include Gold andSilver, but I’m a bit surprised there apparently is no Copper category at Copper. Details will be provided in a timelyfashion as to the various amenities and prices, some including covered parking. Of course we have ruled out theBurlap category. After all, this is the Jaguar Club, not the Yugo Club. Besides, it’s too scratchy to sleep on.

Moving on, the Copper location presents exceptional opportunities to tour and absorb the scenic and historic wondersof the Central Rockies, Summit County and environs. So we plan to include a “Top O’ the Rockies” tour loop, sometimes called the Copper Triangle. This will include the Colorado 10th Mountain Division Memorial Highway, andvarious sights and attractions along the way, including two crossings of the Continental Divide. Your committee hasdriven this route and made notes, and will do further arduous research for this purpose, and your enjoyment.

We are REALLY PUMPED UP about this Concours, and aim to pump up our esteemed colleagues and guests for agreat turnout for a fun filled event. We welcome any thoughts and suggestions you may have. Please note, JCSCneighbors – Copper is a pleasant drive via Hwy 24, then Hwy 9 over Hoosier Pass, through Breckenridge and Frisco, and finally a five mile ride on I-70 to Copper Mountain. Y’all Come !!
