It was a doubly sweet result – with brother Todd advancing past another Castrol machine of Will Davison on the last corner for the final podium position.

The Norton 360 Sandown Challenge proved to be a great event for Castrol teams – with the FPR pair of Mark Winterbottom and Davison annexing a double podium in the longer Sunday race.

Rick Kelly has once again proven the man to beat in wet conditions, taking his Jack Daniel’s Commodore to a spectacular victory in terrible conditions at Melbourne’s Sandown Raceway.

Completing a good weekend, Rick Kelly finished Sunday’s race in ninth, whilst Steve Owen continued his good run of form in the V.I.P. Petfoods car, rounding out the top 10.

In the Championship – Winterbottom has himself into a clear third position now and is the first of both the Fords and Castrol runners. Davison is currently sixth – and is in with a shot of finishing in

the top five in Sydney in just over a week’s time.

Meanwhile, Rick Kelly is the only other Castrol-backed racer in the top 10, currently sitting in seventh placing.

The V8 Supercars will round out their season next weekend – December 2-4 – at Sydney Olympic Park, Homebush for the Sydney Telstra 500.

warriNga park school Visits FprCastrol was extremely pleased to host a group from the Warringa Park School on the Friday of the Norton 360 Sandown Challenge.

As part of a integrated studies unit about machines, 30 students from the Warringa Park School got to travel to Sandown International Raceway for the V8 Supercars.

Castrol arranged for students to enjoy a guided tour through the Ford Performance Racing team’s pit garage and whilst

they were there – Will Davison – driver of the Castrol-backed #6 Trading Post FPR Falcon dropped in for a surprise visit and conducted a Q&A with the students. A fantastic day was had by all students and you couldn’t wipe the grins of their faces… (or the teachers!).

The experience has given students a wonderful opportunity to reinforce their learning and prompt further investigations.

A big weekend of Rugby is coming up this weekend, with the Castrol-backed Wallabies Spring Tour of the UK getting underway with a match against the Barbarians.

It will take place this Saturday at Twickenham in London.

With temperatures a little cooler than what they have experienced in Australia, the 26 man squad that have travelled on the tour will be looking to get it underway on a high.

nicely for their Test the following weekend against the Welsh at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Meantime, a little closer to home, the Rugby Sevens Fever Pitch will take place on the Gold Coast.

The glitter strip has been abuzz with the international teams getting in their last minute preparations for the fast-paced version of the game.

The HSBC Gold Coast Sevens will take place across both Friday and Saturday at Skilled Park on the Gold Coast.

Castrol-backed Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Billy Mackenzie finished his debut Super X season in a strong manner at Ipswich QLD with a 4th place finish giving him 4th overall for the Championship. Lites riderDean Ferris’s final ride with Monster Energy Kawasaki finished with a final lap crash however Ferris had already done enough work to still salvage a top ten finish. Under 19s Kawasaki rider Meghan Rutledge rode her way to another final at Ipswich to finish her season on a high Mackenzie rocketed out of the gates into 2nd place and held onto that position through half of the race. Mackenzie was passed mid race and fought hard for a podium finish but a tiny error in the final stages of the moto allowed Kawasakimounted Chris Blose to pass with Mackenzie coming away with 4th for the moto and 4th overall for the Championship.

” I was just happy to get a bit of momentum, albeit at the last round,” said Mackenzie. “I felt good out there, the track was a bit larger scale and that suited me better, I was able to carry some corner speed and the bike was working good, I felt connected with the bike. It was just a bit disappointing I couldn’t get my mojo working earlier in the Supercross season.”

In his final race with Monster Energy Kawasaki before heading off to race with Kawasaki GP team Ice One Racing in Europe in 2012, Lites rider Dean Ferris experienced a luckless night in Ipswich. Struggling from an average start, Ferris had to fight from mid pack, gradually working his way to 6th place before a crash on the final lap pushed him back to 9th for the round.

The only girl competing in the Under 19’s class at Super X, 16 year old Kawasaki rider Meghan Rutledge turns up to each round with a serious amount of practise hours and training

under her belt, an unquenchable desire to succeed…..and a smile on her face. That determination and talent has paid dividends for Meghan with a legion of new fans gathered throughout the series and a new sponsorship arrangement with Monster Energy for 2012. Pitting with the Monster Energy Kawasaki team throughout the 2011 series, Meghan achieved her series goal of making it through to race the main events.

“Kawasaki has been working on my bike throughout the year and I just appreciate it so much so a huge shout out to those guys. I can’t wait to race with Kawasaki next year.”

supercheap backs 2 car NZ tiltSupercheap Auto has signed on as major sponsor for a two car assault on the new New Zealand SuperTourer category with Australian team, Melbourne Performance Racing.

The big news is that the team has signed on well respected former V8 Supercar racer and now V8 Utes regular, Cameron McConville to partner Gold Coast based Kiwi – Scott McLaughlin.

The new class – which will replace the New Zealand V8s – utilises common componentry and has created quite a buzz in the NZ racing scene. Castrol will be a partner of both the MPC team and the Series.

“I can’t wait to get back over there, and having scored a win on home soil (Taupo) last year I am looking to be up in the top five from the word go,” McLaughlin said.

“My driving has improved significantly this year and we have proven that we can mix it at the front in the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series.

“I’m so excited about this new form of V8 racing and the New Zealand fans are going to love the cars. To have Supercheap Auto on board again is just fantastic as we enjoyed some really good events in last year’s NZV8 Series and I really want to repay them for having the faith in this new venture.”

McConville is similarly excited by the chance – which will see him work closely with McLaughlin.

“The NZ V8 SuperTourer Series is shaping up as a really competitive program and the depth of talent in the field looks to be excellent,” McConville said.

“I don’t know all of the circuits but I’m sure my MPC team will be amongst the best team there is and for that reason I feel confident of putting on a very competitive showing.

“The cars look great and from what I’ve heard they are quick and well-balanced. I’m really looking forward to giving it a red hot go and I’m delighted to be part of the two-car Supercheap Auto team with young Scott. One thing’s for sure, I will be getting plenty of V8 miles next year.”
