And from divine décor to avant-garde gizmos and scent-sational saviours to delicious delicacies, we’ll ensure your Christmas is filled with jingle! What’s NewThe countdown to Christmas has well and truly begun and from decking the halls with dazzling decorations to getting gifted and hunting out heavenly haute couture, there’s no better place to be than Castle Dene. And with plenty of exciting events and promotions in the pipeline, it’s the perfect time to pay us a visit.

On Saturday 29th November we invited our shoppers to enjoy some relaxing rewards and festive treats in our Grown Up Grotto! Everyone who spent £40 or more in the centre between Saturday 22nd and Saturday 29th November, was rewarded with FREE entry to the grotto where there was an array of sweet treats including mulled wine, mince pies and a chocolate fountain. Massages and manicures were also on offer, providing pampering perfection for visitors!

The following day, Sunday 30th November, we hosted a Charity Gift Wrapping Event where shoppers could bring their Christmas gift purchases along for volunteers to wrap for a nominal donation to our designated charity; the Great North Air Ambulance.

The Great North Air Ambulance serves Cumbria, the North-East and North Yorkshire 365 days a year. The charity needs to raise £4million a year to keep their three helicopters flying. Its crew of clinical and aviation experts bring accident and emergency expertise to the patient and respond to around 1,000 call outs each year. In the last three months alone they have responded to 206 call outs, saving countless lives.

A representative from the Great North Air Ambulance commented: “Our partnership with Castle Dene Shopping Centre is vital and we could not keep the service going without support like this. All of the funds raised will be spent on medical supplies, aircraft maintenance and life-saving equipment. This will help us to fly more missions throughout the region, which could save the life of any one of us. For that, thank you.”

Earlier in November we officially welcomed the festive season to the centre with our Christmas Lights Switch On! In association with SUN FM, we hosted an evening of live entertainment and performances on Friday 21st November.

There were appearances from X Factor’s Kerrianne Covell, Peterlee’s Next Big Thing winner and Iron Man even flew in for some superhero selfies! A selection of on-stage competitions also gave visitors the chance to win plenty of fantastic prizes. The lights were switched on at 6pm by some very special local children from Cotsford Infant School with the help of Kerianne and SUN FM’s Sunny the Seagull.

We’re looking forward to hosting other exciting events and spectacular shows at the centre throughout 2015!

Christmas Pudding Night:Thurs 18th Dec, 7pm - 11:45pm

Come along and enjoy a light main course or chef's mixed platter followed by a glass of Prosecco with sorbet. Then comes five puddings followed by tea or coffee with chocolate mints!

Christmas Craft Fair:Sat 20th Dec, 3pm - 6pm

Join The Friends of Ward Jackson Park for a torch lit sing-a-long in the company of the Hartlepool Ukulele Band. Visit the craft fair and enjoy FREE crafting activities for children. Don't forget to visit Santa in The Place In The Park! (charges apply)

Christmas Party Evening:Sat 20th Dec, 7pm - Midnight

Method:

1. To make the pastry rub the cold, diced butter into the plain flour. Mix in the golden caster sugar and add a pinch of salt. Combine the pastry into a ball and knead it briefly, the dough will be fairly firm. You can use it immediately or chill for use later.

2. Preheat the oven to 200̊ C/Gas Mark 6/180 C̊. Line 18 holes of two 12-hole bun tins by pressing small sized balls of pastry into each hole. Spoon 280g of mincemeat into the pies.

3. Take slightly smaller balls of pastry and pat them out between your hands to make round lids, big enough to cover the pies. Press the edges gently together to seal. The pies can be frozen for up to one month.

4. Beat 1 small egg and brush the tops of the pies. Bake for 20 minutes until golden. Leave to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then put them all onto a wire rack. Serve lightly dusted with icing sugar.
