ThescientificdisciplinesofCASPR
CASPRisconductingresearchrelatedtoadvancedstatisticalsignalprocessingsolutionsforassistivelistening.Theresearchfindsdirectuseincommunicationdevicessuchashearingaids,helmets,headphones,cochlearimplants,earmonitor,earpieces,diagnosticequipment,etc.However,theenvisionedresearchalsofindsuseinrelatedareassuchasrobustspeech/speakerrecognition,braincomputerinterfaces,acousticeventdetection,etc.
ThescientificscopeofCASPRencompasses
• statisticalsignalprocessing• machinelearning• informationandcommunicationtheorywith
applicationstowirelessexchangeofinformationbetweenlisteningdevicesandotherexternaldevices
• patternrecognition• datamininginbodywornsensordata• perception-basedstatisticalsignalprocessing
CASPRwillnavigateinarapidlychangingtechnologicallandscape:weenvisionanearfuture,wherethetechnologicallandscapeallowsverydifferent,andbetter,hearingassistivedevicesthanareknowntoday.Specifically,weenvisionthatnear-futurehearingassistivedeviceswill:
§ increasethewirelessexchangeofinformationwitheachother,withotherbody-worndevicesandwithdevicesoutsidethebody.
§ makeuseofadditionalmicrophonesonoroutsidethebody,andwillemployothertypesofbody-wornoroutside-the-bodysensors.
§ workinamuchclosersymbiosiswiththeuser.
