NORTHCONNEX CONSTRUCTION SUPPORT PROJECT CASE STUDY PROJECT OVERVIEW NorthConnex is a 9-kilometre motorway tunnel in northern Sydney. It will act as a tunnel bypass of the congested Pennant Hills Road, connecng the M1 Pacific Motorway to the M2 Hills Motorway. SCOPE OF WORK The NorthConnex Tunnel is separated into seven zones with Zone 7 being 1,200m in length starng from the mainline tunnel and ending at the northern entry/exit ramp, leading to the M1 Pacific Motorway. RSGx's Scope of Works: Installaon of submain and main earth cabling from Substaon 07 (SS07) to cross passage electrical rooms or Jet fans within Zone 7. A total of 37,000m of submain and earth cabling was installed. The terminaon and pre-commissioning of outgoing submain cables from SS07 Installaon cable support structures within cable pits. All pits were classified as confined spaces. Management of confined space work and entry permits. Subsequent to the cable hauling scope, RSGx were awarded an additional Completions scope. Scope of Works: Close out and management of works to go/punch list works. Electrical works considered scope gaps with main Subcontract packages within the tunnel and or design gaps idenfied throughout commissioning. This scope of works covered miscellaneous outstanding works construcon, pre-commissioning and commissioning. LLBJV (Lend Lease Bouygues Joint Venture) CLIENT During these works RSGx were required to work within commissioning zones, working under the Permit to Work (PTW) management system. SOLUTION As Substation 07 was located on the surface, the cable hauling subcontract was considered the most challenging cable hauling package due to its highly complex cable route from origin to destination. The most challenging aspect of the installation was the location of the cabling transition from underground conduits to cable ladder at the tunnel Cross Passage. RSGx attended to this scope on a 24-hour basis in order to meet the client requirements, with peak manning level of 40 electrical workers and 2 electrical supervisors. ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE RSGx's good performance on the cable hauling scope provided the platform for our project team to be awarded an additional completions scope. All construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and completions activities were completed on time, on budget and LTI free.
