Control Measures: LEV Systems None Other Controls None PPE Requirement Alkali Resistant Gloves and Eye protection to be used when there is a chance of Eye/Skin contact. Atmospheric Monitoring Required for: Not Required
Assessment of Control Given the nature of the job exposure to the chemicals is very limited. Therefore inhalation should not be a problem. However, PPE should be worn when there is a chance of eye/skin contact. For direct contact with chemicals, usually Nalco, also see www.carrssilverware.co.uk/database/coolingtowercoshh.zip IN EMERGENCY – SEE DATA SHEET

PRODUCT NAME: MULTISOL G, SS, EPG PRODUCT CODE: AGC, AGE, AGH APPLICATION: Metalworking fluid to be used diluted with water prior to use.
2. COMPOSITION / INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS General: This product is based on highly refined mineral oil, emulsifiers and additives. Hazardous Ingredients: Diethanolamine condensation product. 15 - 25% TWA 3ppm
3. HAZARD IDENTIFICATION Health and Safety Hazards: Eye contact with undiluted product may cause irritation. The undiluted product may be irritating to the skin, especially if the material is not removed promptly. Special Hazards of During use, metalworking emulsions may become contaminated with metal particles and Product after use: metal salts, other lubricants and microbiological contaminants. These may increase the irritancy of emulsions, and in some cases (e.g. contamination by chromium, cobalt and nickel) may be capable of inducing allergic reactions.
4. FIRST AID MEASURES Eyes: Immediately wash eye thoroughly with plenty of clean water. For contact with undiluted fluid, obtain prompt medical attention. For contact with diluted product if irritation persists. Skin: Following contact with the undiluted product, wash thoroughly with soap and water without delay. Remove heavily contaminated clothing. wash contaminated clothing before re-use. If irritation persists, obtain medical advice. Ingestion: DO NOT INDUCE VOMITING. Wash out mouth with water and obtain medical attention. Treat symptomatically. If aspiration is suspected, obtain immediate medical attention. Pressure Injection: Always obtain immediate medical attention.
5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Flammability: May support combustion in a serious fire. Extinguishing Media: Foam, dry powder, CO2, sand or earth. Products of Combustion:See Section 10
6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Always prevent entry into drains or watercourses. Spillages can be slippery. Small Spills: Soak in absorbent granules or sand. Large Spills: Bund using absorbent granules, sand or earth and reclaim bulk liquid. Disposal of Spillage: Via authorised waste disposal contractor. Disposal must be in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling: Avoid contact with skin and eyes with undiluted product, by wearing goggles or facemask and oil impervious gloves. Storage: Store in dry conditions between 0 and 40o C.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROL / PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Limits: As for mineral oil mist: 5mg/m3 (8hr TWA) Eyes: Wear goggles or face mask when handling undiluted product. 9. PHYSICAL AND CHEMICAL PROPERTIES Appearance and Odour: Viscous Liquid with Characteristic Odour Specific Gravity @ 20o C : 1.005 pH(5%): 9.0 - 9.4 Solubility in water: Emulsifyable Flash Point (C): >100 Autoignition Temp.: >150 Boiling Point (C): >100 Melting Point (C): <0 Viscosity @ 40 o C (cSt) 50 - 150
10. STABILITY AND REACTIVITY Stability: This product is stable and unlikely to react in a hazardous manner in normal conditions of use. Conditions to Avoid: Extremes of temperature. Store between 0 and 40oC. Materials to Avoid: Strong oxidising agents. Decomposition Products:Oxides of carbon, water and traces of other compounds some may contain chlorine.
11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION Eyes: Eye contact with undiluted product may cause moderate irritation and stinging. there maybe a potential to cause corneal injury if treatment is not prompt. Dilute emulsions are expected to cause only slight transient irritation or redness. Skin: The undiluted product in occasional skin contact is unlikely to cause any significant reaction. Prolonged contact with undiluted product may cause defatting of skin barrier leading to cracking and soreness. Inhalation: The product is unlikely to present any significant inhalation hazard at ambient temperatures. High temperatures or atomising systems may lead to generation of vapours, mists or fumes which could cause irritation to eyes or respiratory tract. Repeated excessive exposures to oil mists may cause respiratory damage and a condition resembling pneumonia. Ingestion: The product has a low order of acute oral toxicity; ingestion is not regarded as a significant health hazard likely to arise in normal use. Swallowing significant quantities may cause discomfort, nausea and diarrhoea. Aspiration: Aspiration into the lungs caused by vomiting following ingestion can be hazardous with possible resultant chemically induced pneumonia.
12. ECOLOGICAL INFORMATION Water: The individual components range from readily to poorly biodegradable. The components are not expected to be highly toxic to aquatic life. If released to water, the product may deplete the oxygen supply to bottom dwelling organisms. Soil: Small quantities will be absorbed in the upper soil layers where biodegredation may take place.
13. DISPOSAL CONSIDERATIONS All means of disposal should comply with local regulations and the Environmental Protection Act 1990. Dispose of the product and containers carefully and responsibly. Do not allow product to contaminate ponds, water courses, soil or drains.Dispose of via an authorised person / licensed waste disposal contractor.
14. TRANSPORT INFORMATION Classification: Not classified as dangerous for conveyance. UN Number: Not Applicable.
15. REGULATORY INFORMATION
16. OTHER INFORMATION (1) Other materials should not be added to the product or emulsions unless recommended. (2) Emulsions should be maintained at the recommended concentrations in order to minimise any health hazards. (3) Minimise tramp oil and contamination; remove metallic swarf or other debris from machines at frequent intervals. (4) During machining, emulsions may become contaminated with certain metals which are present in the workpiece or tools. These may solubilise in the emulsion. Some of these contaminants, such as chromium, nickel or cobalt may induce allergic reactions. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Legislation: Chemical (Hazards, Information and Packaging) regulations 1993.
