Dear Friends,Dear Friends,

The Penguin Random House Book Fair began in 1997 through a partnership of the Carroll Community College Foundation and Random House, Inc. as a fundraising event to raise awareness of the importance of reading,

literacy, and learning. Over the years the book fair has helped hundreds of students achieve their educational dreams by funding over $700,000 in local student scholarships.

I would like to give special thanks to our many sponsors who help to make this fundraiser a huge success. On behalf of Penguin Random House, we are proud to provide continuing support of this wonderful event.

All event proceeds support the mission of the Carroll Community College Foundation and fund student scholarships at Carroll Community College.

Come join in the fun!

Annette Danek – Akey2019 Penguin Random House Book Fair Chairperson

to the Annual Penguin Random House Book Fair

Over the years, it has blossomed into a popular regional event, attracting visitors from around the State. We owe the success of this unique event to three key ingredients: patronage, partnership and the promise of a brilliant future.

Without a doubt, the support of our patrons is at the heart of our success. Every time you purchase a book at the Book Fair, a Carroll student comes that much closer to receiving a much-needed scholarship. When you attend a book discussion by one of our featured authors, you support the cause of literacy. And when you tell your friends and neighbors what a great event the Book Fair is, you spread the word and help the event to grow.

We could not continue this event without the loyal support of our outstanding partners, led by Penguin Random House, which organizes national author appear-ances and encourages its employees to dedicate time to volunteering. I wish to extend a special thanks to Annette Danek-Akey, who also serves as the president of the Carroll Community College Foundation Board of Directors. To all of our excep-tional sponsors and donors who generously support the Book Fair, I extend my sincerest appreciation.

Finally, your participation in the Book Fair opens the door to the promise of a brilliant future. Your support of the Book Fair means that our community and future generations will experience the pleasure of reading a good book, of discovering the fascination of a great character, of learning a new skill; or, of travelling vicariously to distant lands. Thank you to all who make the Book Fair possible. Your support ensures that our future shines brightly!

Sincerely,Dr. James D. BallPresidentCarroll Community College

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 22nd Annual Penguin Random House Book Fair at Carroll Community College. I am delighted that you have chosen to spend time with us by enjoying the multitude of activities we offer families and visitors of all ages. The Book Fair has been a great success since the inception of the event in 1997.

Our Westminster Operations Center is one of Carroll County's largest private employers, and the nation's largest and most technologically-advanced distribution center for books. We applaud and take enormous pride in the spirit and dedication of our employees and their ability to meet and exceed our customers' expectations by picking, packing and shipping approximately 1 million books each day from our - facility. Our employees are truly the "cornerstone" of our House.Over the course of sixteen years, our company has donated two million dollars to the "First Book" program, an enormously encompassing national reading organization whose mission is supporting underserved children with their "first book." Also, every year, Penguin Random House, Random House, and its sister companies contribute more than three million copies of our print books to needy readers all over the globe. We are proud to partner with Carroll Community College, the premier two-year educational institution in the State of Maryland, in its fundraising efforts to help its students. Thank you for supporting the Carroll Community College Foundation by visiting the 22nd annual Penguin Random House Book Fair this year. Enjoy your day!
