Carrigan 1 Arizona Carrigan Mr.Bradley English 11 13 March 2015 Gun Control “Pop, Pop, Pop” Thats a 45 when people got a beef with you. Sounds crazy right? well thats what a lot of people here in Michigan use guns for. Guns aren’t the problem, people are the problem. We need more strict gun restrictions to keep us safe from ourselves. Firstly,Mental illnesses are a very large reason why guns are used incorrectly. According to The New York Times by Hartocollis In 2014 people from new york that were no longer able to carry firearms grew to 34,500. This data lets us know that we have been taking the correct steps yet we need to push harder to take lethal weapons from the hands of people who are mentally unstable have guns in their hands then we are accepting death. On the other hand, Some people claim that taking away their guns is violating their second amendment. The second amendment says “Well regulated militia, being second amendment the security of a free state, the right people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”. The U.S constitution clearly states that we should be able to have guns. But guess what we were also allowed to have at the time? Slaves. When the government finally told us we were no longer allowed to own a human being because of their skin color we basically threw a fit. Tradition isn’t always synonymous with good. The second amendment is what is stopping us from achieving better gun regulations. “Bop” that is the sounds of a gun shooting a bullet into someones chest. A chart in the article “Gun Violence in U.s Cities Compared to the Deadliest Nations in the World” by Richard Florida states 35.9 gun homicides happen per every 100,000 people in detroit. Which
