Opened in September 2014, the new ‘Art College’ has been designed to meet the ever changingdemands of some very diverse and fast moving industries. The new Carlisle College of the Arts includes:

This new facility has been fitted out withstate of the art industry standardequipment to ensure that the studentsexperience learning in a real life setting.

Many of our students have gone on toprestigious colleges and universitiesincluding the London School of Fashion.

Some of our students have received ascholarship for university due to theirhigh levels of achievement during theirtime at Carlisle College.

Performing ArtsThe Performing Arts can be a difficult industry to gain access to, but one thatcan be highly rewarding. In order to be successful you must be able to workas part of a team and be highly creative with your ideas, as well as beingrespectful of other people’s creative input. You are required to be organisedand have good time management skills.

Performing Arts can lead to many different employment opportunities.Previous students have gone on to work as Theatre/Film Performers, CabaretEntertainers and Holiday Reps.

Level 1Exploring the CreativeArts and Media Sectors

About this courseThis Level 1 course is designed to give you theopportunity to try out different areas withinthe Arts to help you decide what you would liketo focus on in future studies. You will receivededicated support while studying this course.

What can I do next?On completion you may be ready to study alevel 2 programme at the College or maychoose to go in to employment.

Level 2 Performing Arts

About this courseThis course will introduce you to all aspects oftheatre and performance, and will provideopportunities for you to study at a higher level.You should have an active interest inperforming arts and be willing to workcreatively as part of a team. You will cover arange of topics at an introductory level in orderto build your confidence and your skill set.

What can I do next?On completion you may be ready to studyBTEC Level 3 Performing Arts at the College ormay choose to go into employment.

Level 3 Performing Arts

About this courseOn this course you will have the opportunity todevelop a range of skills and techniques including:Contemporary and Jazz Dance, Musical Theatre,devising original material and Improvisation. Youwill also expand your knowledge of theatricalgenres, as well as gain experience in working in a professional production environment.

What can I do next?This course provides you with the opportunity toprogress to Higher Education and can also giveyou the industry experience to gain employment within the performing arts industry.

MediaThe Creative Media Production course is dynamic, highly vocational andproject led. Students can expect to learn a whole variety of film making skillsfrom production, through to post production and promotion and distribution.The highly qualified lecture staff have strong local industry links andpractical experience and have won multiple awards for their work whichincludes live concert DVDs, short films and feature films. Previous and currentstudents have also won a range of awards for their short films includingRoyal Television Society regional awards as well as gaining professionalcredits on the Internet Movie Database (IMBD) and a previous student alsocompleted and premiered his first feature film.

All of our students this year secured their first choice of university.

Level 2 Media Production

About this courseThis course provides you with the skills andknowledge relevant to a range of industriesin the media sector. The course covers arange of vocational projects giving you abasic understanding of working practices andhow media products are constructed forspecific audiences.

What can I do next?Progress into a range of Level 3 courses ormove into employment.

Level 3 Media Production

About this courseAs part of this course you will work on live andcollaborative projects with Music and PerformingArts giving you the experience necessary todevelop a range of practical skills. You willproduce a varied portfolio of work including:Music Videos, Short Films and Documentaries.

What can I do next?This course will allow you to access a range ofHigher Education courses or accessemployment in the media industry as well asproducing a wide range of transferable skillswhich support any career choice.

Level 2 Music

About this courseThe BTEC L2 Diploma in Music is a one-yearvocational course, which is designed to equiplearners with the practical skills required toprogress onto a Level 3 course in Music orMusic Technology. You will study a variety ofsubjects and acquire basic essential skillswithin music as well as develop transferableskills, which you can take with you oncompletion of this course. Units include basicimprovisation, live band workshop skills leadingtowards gigs and events.

What can I do next?You may be able to progress onto Level 3 Musicor Music Technology or move into employment.

Level 3 (Pop, Rock and Jazz)Music

About this courseThis course is designed for those aspiringmusicians who wish to broaden their skills andknowledge in popular music. You will explore anextensive range of specialist units (withinperformance, theory and contextual) and studyalongside other dedicated musicians who all havea keen interest in music. The new campus hostssome fantastic, specialist facilities which willsupport you in developing your musicianship skillsand knowledge alongside a great learningexperience. Projects include: Schools Roadshow,Pop through the Decades, Tribute Shows, writing,producing and launching your own original album,playing in a musical theatre pit band. Tutors arepractitioners and regularly gig so fully understandthe demands on today’s working musicians so,whether you have been taught formally or areself-taught, this is the ideal course to give you thetools and experience needed to prepare yourselffor a possible career in the music industry.
