Cairde welcomes Lisa Hannigan to this year’s festival. With the wonderful JohnSmith in support.

Lisa is an Irish singer, songwriter and musician. Her music has received criticalpraise, airplay and award nominations both in her native Ireland and, more recently,in the United States. She began singing with Damien Rice in 2001, performing onthe majority of tracks on his debut album, ‘O’, and accompanying him in his liveperformances as a vocalist and, occasionally, on electric guitar. Lisa also workedwith Damien on his album, ‘9’, singing the lead vocal on the album’s first singleand opening song, ‘9 Crimes’. She began her solo career in 2008 with her debutalbum Sea Saw which spawned the single ‘Lille’, a Choice Music Prize nomination, two Meteor Music Awards nominations and a Mercury Prize nomination.

There has also been praise from fellow musicians and, in recent times, from JoolsHolland and from US television hosts Jay Leno and Stephen Colbert.

Herby Hancock said of her vocals, “there’s so much jazz in the notes and phrasesthat she picks… I mean some of the things sound like choices that Miles would havemade”.

Tupelo are one of the nation’s most unique bands, blending classic Irish influencesand instrumentation with the less expected influence of American folk andbluegrass music. Their eclectic line-up includes banjo, fiddle, brass and double bass– all blended into a sound that is both unusual and familiar. The band have beenhoning their sound up and down Ireland for the past few years, playing at festivalssuch as the Electric Picnic and Cork Jazz and picking up fans of the stature of DaveFanning and Imelda May.

Following the release of their debut album Dirty Money, Tupelo have been playinglive to packed houses all over Ireland.

What happens when a thousand year old musical tradition gets washed up on theshores of a vibrant multi-cultural city in the West of Ireland. The result is the BahhBand. Based in Galway, the Bahh Band mix Indian classical forms with an array ofworld folk traditions and stir it all up with a healthy dose of rock and blues.Founded in 2007, the group have been recruiting musicians to realise a vision ofecstatic and passionate semi-improvised music. From performing in a thunderousstorm packed tent on the final night of Electric Picnic, to playing for thousands ofdevotees in the RDS in Dublin for Indian guru, Amma, the Bahh Band have becomeknown for their hypnotic and engaging live shows. An equal parts blending of DeadCan Dance, Sigur Ros and Kila, the Bahh Band have developed a cult followingbased on their unique sound.
