Tips
Do spend time on you SAF (Standard Application Form)
Put in the right info under registration – you will all be:
Areas of special interest pg. 5 – no word count, take advantage of that and sell yourself!

Tips
Research the school you are applying to.
Find where you can ‘fit in’
How you can benefit them with your talents and what you have to offer. (Try to stand out)
But don’t make yourself look too busy either
Apply for schools that you are willing to work in, don’t waster their time or yours.

You will find out if you have been called for interview about a week before it’s taking
place.
Use that week to research the school again
Ensure you know what you have put on your SAF and that you are comfortable
answering those topics.
Generally the interview is about 15 – 20 minutes long.
This year I would say my biggest tip for the interview
would be to show your understanding of distant learning,
apps you might be aware of seesaw etc.
The Interview

English questions about the school and your teaching experiences – have a lesson in
mind for infants/middle/senior classes so if you need to be specific you can draw on that.
The Gaeilge question is normally quite general – nothing to stress about
Religion – Again generally how would you support children’s spiritual development. Again
prepare your answer in advance.

Choosing the right job for you
Accept the job
Contracts will be signed
Prepare for the upcoming role
First day nerves – especially if you are in a new school to you.
Generally there is a staff meeting – sit back, listen and get a feel for the place
There will be lots of changes this year due to the pandemic so go with the flow,
everyone will be finding their way
Securing my first role

SET role – quite daunting as we are so prepared for an in class roll.
Went to all SET meetings with the idea of learning from the team.
Biggest tip – ask for help!!! These teachers were ALL where you are now and are only
happy to help! So do just that!
At some point they will come to you for help to!
Build relationships within the school! Make it enjoyable.
If in a SET role, ask the class teacher how they want you
to remove children from class etc, & vice versa explain to SET if you are the class teacher
what way you would like them to leave/come back to class.
My experience

Personally I completed the Droichead programme
Wonderful induction programme really
Use the teachers working with you – you will learn so much and get the opportunity to
observe fabulous teachers – so take everything you can!
Again ask for help if you don’t understand something – like the new tiered support plan
Most importantly have fun!!!
