Boston College: The USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine pre-season polls both tabbed the Eagles as No. 5, the highest preseason rankings in program history...BC will open the 2011-12 season at No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m...BC returns 17 letterwinners from the team that went 24-7-6, claimed the Beanpot and Hockey East Tournament titles before advancing to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2010-11...Four of the Eagles’ top five point-scorers are also back: Hockey East All-Star Mary Restuccia, Danielle Welch, Taylor Wasylk and Melissa Bizzari. Each veteran totaled more than 20 points last season...The last time BC met Duluth was Nov. 27-28, 2009, in Chestnut Hill, Mass. The Bulldogs took both games, 3-0 and 5-1, respectively...The Eagles trail in the all-time series against the Bulldogs, 0-3.

Boston University: BU won its first season opener since Oct. 3, 2008…Was the second straight year that the Terriers split an opening-weekend series with North Dakota…Kerrin Sperry (North Reading, Mass.) now has stopped at least 30 shots in each of the past three games, dating back to national title game last season…On Friday, Terriers scored goals at even strength, on the power play and shorthanded…BU killed off 12 of 13 power plays it faced over the weekend…Eight Terriers in all recorded a point over the weekend.

University of Connecticut: UConn opened at home with a tie and a loss to RPI by scores of 3-3 and 1-0...Senior Sami Evelyn tallied a pair of assists in her first career game centering the top line...Freshmen Caitlin Hewes and Sarah MacDon-nell each scored in there collegiate debuts...The deciding goal in Saturday night’s loss came with just 8.9 seconds remaining in the third period.

University of Maine: The University of Maine women’s ice hockey team had the weekend off after opening last weekend against Sacred Heart…Maine travels to Quinnipiac for a pair of games next weekend…The Black Bears look to open the season 3-0-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season when it defeated Bemidji State twice and Boston College once to start the campaign…Maine has never won four straight games to open a season...Maine captain Dawn Sullivan (Enfield, Nova Scotia) has played in 99 career games, while assistant captain Ashley Norum (Fairbanks, Alaska) has seen action in 98 career games.

University of New Hampshire: The six goals of the 6-3 win in the season opener at Niagara marked the highest UNH output since Oct. 18, 2009 against Niagara (6-1 win at the Whittemore Center) and the highest scored by the ‘Cats on the road since Feb. 8, 2009 at UVM (6-2 win)...UNH scored five second-period goals in the second period of the season opener at Niagara; in comparison, the Wildcats’ highest goal output in a game last season was five goals...UNH has a 30-3-2 overall record in season openers with a 9-0-1 mark during the tenure of head coach Brian McCloskey.

Northeastern University: Northeastern opened the 2011-12 campaign with a 6-0 exhibition victory over the Ottawa Jr. Senators...Coach Dave Flint has injected youth into the squad this year, with nine freshmen accompanying just two seniors on the team predicted to place third in Hockey East. The Huskies open the regular season at home against Syracuse this Friday, Oct. 7; NU is 0-0-1 all-time against the Orange, skating to a 4-4 tie last season. The next day they take on Colgate for the first time in program history.

Providence College: Friday’s 0-0 tie with host Bemidji State marked just the second time in the last three years the Friars have failed to score a goal. The other was a 1-0 defeat at Vermont on January 30, 2011…The last time Providence played to a scoreless tie was January 10, 2003 against Niagara…This weekend’s games was the first ever meetings between Providence and Bemidji State.

University of Vermont: Vermont is now 3-1-2 in season openers under Head Coach Tim Bothwell…Sophomore Roxanne Douville made 37 saves and was named the game’s first star…With a 3-3 tie against Clarkson Vermont improved to 1-13-3 all-time against the Golden Knights…Vermont was 3-3-4 in games against the ECAC last season…This year the Catamounts will face five teams from their former conference (Clarkson, Rensselaer, Colgate, Dartmouth and St. Lawrence.)…Vermont hosts RPI next weekend in a two-game set at Gutterson Fieldhouse...UVM has another difficult schedule this season, with 12 games against teams ranked in the preseason USCHO.com Division I Women’s Poll.
