Logic of the ToC…..

• Domains of change – you cannot achieve gender equitable and sustainable food and nutrition security unless you address the underlying causes of poverty and inequality and build just (equitable, fair) systems for managing opportunity, risk and uncertainty

Page 7: CARE International Food & Nutrition Security Strategy Food & Nutrition Team Workshop Atlanta, GA April 30, 2014

Technical pillars for a comprehensive approach

• Agricultural production and marketing systems• Livelihood strategies• Nutrition• Social protection• Emergency response• Right to food linked to governanceTo transform the lives of women, girls and their families by building on their own capabilities and desires to ensure the availability, access , utilization and stability of safe, quality nutritious food

Page 8: CARE International Food & Nutrition Security Strategy Food & Nutrition Team Workshop Atlanta, GA April 30, 2014

An integrated approach – The technical pillars

• The technical pillars do address the key components to build livelihoods and protect and provide food and nutrition security for the most vulnerable

• The technical pillars do not articulate fundamentals about CARE’s approaches – program approach, analysis, advocacy, women’s empowerment and gender transformation

• Therefore, we will contextualize the CI FNS strategy with a program framework

CI FNS Strategy Framework (CARE UK)

• Availability• Access• Utilization• Stability

Big Questions:Overarching• What are the UCVPs in Pathways COs?

Which of these barriers should CARE work on?

• Why are women and girls hungry? Analysis of the right to food, inequities and social justice

• Policy scans etc

Page 13: CARE International Food & Nutrition Security Strategy Food & Nutrition Team Workshop Atlanta, GA April 30, 2014

Questions ????

and nutrition security? Why and in what ways?

• Strengthening Resilience (Livelihoods framework)– What do we mean by resilience, and how to you strengthen

resilience of chronically food insecure women?

• Governance (UK Governance Framework)– How can more accountable systems for food and livelihoods

justice be built?
