ECUMENICAL FAMILIES: THE GIFTS TO BE SHARED ROOM 208 Rev. James Loughran, SA Many Catholics are marrying non-Catholic Christians these days. What gifts can each bring to make such marriages successful witnesses to the gospel in their extended families, their parishes and the bigger world? How do the sacred inform their lives together and their children? ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? ROOM 210 Mr. Tony Bellizzi This workshop will be about bringing greater joy into your life and your ministry. It will include special applications for middle school and high school faith formation programs.

Kerrigan The Bible offers insights into the various ways of experiencing joy. More than a personal positive feeling, joy is a transformative orientation that guides how a person lives one’s life. The Scriptural basis for the experiences of joy will be considered in seeing joy as: 1) a gift from God; 2) lived as a disciple of Jesus; 3) a fruit of the Holy Spirit in witness of life; 4) joyful worship as expressed in psalms. SHARING THE GOOD NEWS IN ENGAGING WAYS ROOM 234 Ms. Betsy Davila The Word of God is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12) and therefore should be incorporated in lesson planning. STOP THE SILENCE, SPEAK UP! ROOM 212 Ms. Linda Fitzsimmons A main theme of Catholic Social Teaching is the inherent value, worth and dignity of each and every human being. Bullying is a form of health-harming behavior that is intentional, hurtful and persistent and in direct opposition to the principle of human dignity. During this workshop, catechists will learn about ways to address bullying and develop strategies to assist them in recognizing, preventing and confronting this destructive behavior. THE JOY THAT COMES WITH DESIRE: C.S. LEWIS’ UNDERSTANDING OF CHRISTIAN JOY AS THAT

“LONGING WHICH HAS NO FULFILLMENT” IN OUR EARTHLY LIVES ROOM 214 Rev. Arthur Mastrolia Lewis writes: “Joy, (in my sense), has indeed one characteristic and one only, in common with, (happiness and pleasure), the fact that anyone who has experienced it will want it again. Apart from that, and considered only in its quality, it might almost equally well be called a particular kind of unhappiness or grief. But it is a kind we want. I doubt whether anyone who has tasted it would ever, if both were in his power, exchange it for all the pleasures in the world. But then Joy is never in our power and pleasure often is.” Surprised by Joy, 1955 THE JUNIOR HIGH DILEMMA ROOM 228 Ms. Peg Hoblin and Ms. Ernie Martin Come and hear some ideas and techniques that can be used in teaching junior high. These techniques will hopefully help capture their interest and find a personal relationship with God within their Christian community. So much has changed so drastically in the everyday lives of the young people of this generation that, as catechists, we must explore how to engage them in the faith for a full 90 minutes. UNDERSTANDING THE RCIA FOR CHILDREN ROOM 230 Mr. Oscar Cruz Unbaptized children of catechetical age are to be enrolled into the catechumenate process (the RCIA). Come and learn what this means to the child, to the family and to the parish. FAMILY CATECHESIS: NO SPACE – NO TIME – NO EXCUSE ROOM 232 Ms. Katherine Hamilton The mandate for Family Catechesis has its challenges with time, space and participation. We will discuss bringing meaningful activities directly into the home and providing family catechesis opportunities that promotes parents as first catechists of their children, adult faith formation and brings the parish to life.

Our True Joy in Christ

The perennial attitude of the disciple is one of joy. What is the source of this joy? How can we “rejoice always” as St. Paul enjoins us to do? (1 Tes. 5:16). In this presentation, we will explore the ways that Pope Francis proposes for us as we embark in a new chapter of evangelization marked by the joy of the Gospel.
