6. Attendance and Typical Timetable

BA (Hons) Illustration is a full-time course, i.e. 40 hours per week, of which you are expected to

spend a minimum of 20 hours in university. Most taught days run from 10:00 till 17:00. We keep

registers of attendance and will follow up if you are absent.

In Level 4, core Subject and Field teaching takes place on Mondays and Tuesdays. These days

comprise a variety of briefings, subject-specific workshops, tutorials and seminars plus directed

studio activity/research.

During Terms 1 & 2 there will often be Illustration ‘Muses’ on a Monday. These illustrated talks

usually run from 16:30 till 18:00 but times can vary. They are a core part of the course.

Skills-based workshops (e.g. animation, print) take place on Wednesday mornings and as part of your

core learning on other days. There is no formal teaching on Wednesday afternoons.

Constellation teaching takes place every Thursday (lectures, seminars and tutorials). Attendance is

compulsory: Constellation represents one third of your study, i.e. 40 credits each year.

Friday is a studio day for research, catching up and logging your work. Pastoral tutorials may take

place on Fridays.

During assessment periods the pattern of the week is slightly different. From time to time, additional

events will take place at which your presence will be expected. Where possible, advance notice will

be given. We will issue your finalised timetable for the year in Induction Week.

Extra-curricular activity relevant to the discipline is also considered a vital part of your art school &

university experience.

If you are considering part-time paid work to support your studies, please follow the guidelines in the

CSAD Student Handbook.
