PRIZE FUNDSCHARLES MAGEE PRIZEProfessor Charles Magee established accountancy as an academic discipline in Cardiff where he held the chair from 1970 until 1977. He is best remembered for his pioneering research into costing in the National Health Service.

COLONEL PAGE PRIZE FUNDThe oldest of the Business School’s prizes, the Colonel Page fund was established at the end of the nineteenth century with the aim of encouraging commercial education. Colonel Page had served with the 2nd Glamorgan Battalion until his retirement in 1893.

GETHYN DAVIES PRIZEProfessor Gethyn Davies endowed the University of Wales with funds to provide prizes to reward excellent performance in the study of economics.

G&P FORD FUNDProfessor Percy Ford and his wife Grace amassed a valuable collection of Parliamentary Papers, which were sold in 1987. The proceeds were invested to provide an income to finance teaching and research in economics.

HELEN ROBINSON MEMORIAL PRIZEDr. Helen Robinson taught economics in the Business School from 1998 until her tragic death in 2007 at the age of 43. She specialised in micro-economics and in the pay scales of the disadvantaged members of society.

JOHN MALONE (NALGO) MEMORIAL PRIZEJohn Malone made a significant contribution over the course of his working life to NALGO, the National Association of Local Government Officers, which was the ‘white collar’ union representing the local government workforce. In 1993 it merged with two other unions to form UNISON.

TONY BRINN MEMORIAL PRIZETony Brinn taught management accounting in the Business School from 1989 until his untimely death in 2008. The prize bearing his name commemorates his excellence as an educator.

WILLIAM GILES MEMORIAL PRIZEWilliam Giles was the General Marketing Manager with the 3M Corporation who went on to establish his own consultancy firm specialising in business planning. He worked closely with the Business School until his early death in the 1990s.

WJ ROBERTS MEMORIAL FUNDProfessor WJ Roberts was Professor of Economics at this University from 1911 until the 1940s.
