Background

• CARD FNGO is a Ghanaian formed and registered 2011 to deliver innovative agri-related products to farmers and agro processors in its catchment area.

• It works in partnership with a service provider called Durga Agriculture Limited (DAL) to serve the smallholder clients

objectives

To: •provide of farm inputs credit to smallholder farmers in a timely, convenient and affordable manner•provide loans to smallholder clients•offer quality and timely mechanization services to farmers•provide financial education and training•provide reliable scientific warehousing services to clients•provide up-to-date market information as well as market to clients•build the capacity of actors in the activities they undertake in the agricultural value chains

We offers the following financial services to smallholder clients:

• supply of in-kind farm inputs• mechanization services-ploughing, transportation,

shelling, etc.• warehousing services• produce marketing

The services CARD FNGO renders to its clients are packaged in a model called Crops Cashless Financial Services (CCFS) model. The model is summarized in the following flow chart.

It is a cashless inputs credit scheme tailored to meet smallholder farmers most pressing needs during the cropping season (agro inputs are given to farmers who repay with farm produce after harvest)

o CARD FNGO staffs sensitize farmers on the CCFS and assists interested farmers to form Credit Worthy Groups (CWGs)

o Each group registers with CARD FNGO by opening a group account; individual account is also opened for each CWG member

o We built the capacity of these groups in to make them formidable FBOs. We train them in:

Group dynamics Financial management etc Good Agronomic Practices (GAPs) Agribusiness in (maize, rice & soya value chains)o

o Groups interested in the credit facility for the season must put in an application stating the inputs they will need

o Applications are screened and those acceptable are approved o CARD FNGO staff and group leaders survey the inputs market

compare prices and select the inputs dealer offering the most competitive prices and sign a contract with him/her (seed, pesticides, fertilizers)

o Groups direct CARD FNGO to pay for the inputs for them. Inputs remain in the custody of the dealer till they are needed

o When they are needed CARD FNGO conveys and delivers them at the door steps of the groups

o Repayment is in kind (farm produce), however cash is also accepted

o Group leaders are assisted to gather in-kind repayment (farm produce) from their members

o CARD FNGO sends vehicles to convey aggregated produce to its warehouses where grains are cleaned, graded, packaged and stored for marketing

o The table below shows the repayment schedule
