Global African Gateway - goal

Cape Town is the only city in the world on “two oceans”; long known as The Tavern of the Seas it is

also the gateway to Africa.

We need to embrace our identity as a global African City

It can be seen as where East meets West, and North meets South – where the best minds of developed & developing

worlds exchange ideas, challenges & opportunities.

Where global businesses desire to have regional headquarters; where trade with Africa is facilitated.

There was some concern expressed that 'gateway' to Africa had colonial connotations - some people preferred the term 'crossroads' and felt that was also more descriptive of CTN being a hub for trade, commerce, investment, tourism, etc.

Global African Gateway - themes

1. Cape Town as THE African business hub

2. A place where Africans aspire to live, work and study and play

3. A truly cosmopolitan, global city region

The key point for many people was GLOBAL rather than African city - i.e. a place for anyone in the world to base themselves and/or do business - less emphasis for some on African roots and identiy.
