Alpha Alternative Program (Baby Bottles in Narthex). The month of May is dedicated to

our spiritual mother Mary. What better way to cele-brate motherhood than to contribute to an organiza-tion such as Alpha Alternative. Founded in 1991, the Alpha Alternative Pregnancy Care Center of Hop-kinsville is committed to meeting the emotional, spiritu-al, and material needs of women and families facing a crisis pregnancy. Whether a woman faces fear, grief, or pain resulting from an unplanned, lost or terminated pregnancy. Their peer mentors listen and care. All of their services are free and confidential, regardless of race, age, religion, or socio-economic background. You may have visited their ultra-sound mobile unit when they vis-ited St. Stephen’s last year….what a beautiful way for a prospective mother to see the budding of her infant child when she sees its first photo! Pick up a bottle in the nar-thex and fill with coins or dollars throughout the month of May. Return filled bottles the last weekend of May.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION

April 29, 2018

Fifth Sunday of Easter—John 15: 1-8

“I am the true vine and my Father is the vine grower, He takes away every branch

in me that does not bear fruit.”

Anyone who tries to produce fruits, nuts or vegetables understands that if a plant or vine or tree or branch is not producing or dies, it is just wasting space. It should be pruned or replaced. Jesus tells us that “My Father is the Vine Grower.” He is the vine and we are the branches. God has created or “planted” each human being in His world with a vast array of talents, abilities and gifts that He is entitled to expect us to discover, accept, develop, and use to the best of our ability for our own benefit and the benefit of others. He is entitled to ex-pect us to be productive. If we fail we are like the unproductive plant, vine, tree or dead branch. We are just wasting space. As we continue to celebrate Easter, the Pasch and Resurrection, the sacrifices of Jesus and the joy of the Resurrection as our hope for eternal life, we should ask. “Am I as productive as my Creator expects?” If not, why not? How can I become more productive? Here is a hint: Get to know Jesus by reading Scripture. Then imitate Him. You will become very “productive.”

Movie Sunday—The SHACK, May 20th, 2:00—4:00 pm, Parish Hall—You may have read

the book, already seen the movie, or heard the story of the “SHACK”. Please join us on Mack’s spiritual walk through grief and consolation. Synopsis: After suffering a family tragedy, Mack Phillips spirals into a deep depression that causes him to question his inter-most beliefs. Facing a crisis of faith, he receives a mysterious letter urging him to an abandoned shack in the Oregon wilderness. Despite his doubts, Mack journeys to the shack and encoun-ters an enigmatic trio of strangers led by a woman named Papa. Through this meeting, Mack finds important truths that will transform his understanding of his tragedy and change his life forever. Please join us. Light snacks provided.
