Cooper was named the franchise's eighth head coach on March 26, 2013. Cooper joined the Lightning after having spent the previous three seasons behind the bench of Tampa Bay's top minor league affiliates, theNorfolk Admirals from 2010-12 and the 2012-13 season with the Syracuse Crunch, compiling a record of 133-62-26 (.661) in 221 AHL games.Cooper made his NHL head coaching debut with the Lightning on March 29, 2013 in a 5-4 shootout victory against the New Jersey Devils at theTampa Bay Times Forum. He guided the Lightning to a record of 5-8-3 over their final 16 games of the 2012-13 season after replacing GuyBoucher.
