Message from the ChairmanWelcome to Camrose for the 25th Annual

Canadian Bull Congress.

The Canadian Bull Congress was established for cattle producers and businesses supplying cattle producers with goods and services to showcase their products. The Congress is committed to continuing this tradition. It also provides a youth component for school children and a long-standing 4-H program. Another important aspect of the Canadian Bull Congress is the international travel and delegations (both inbound and outbound missions).

I encourage you to read through this handbook as programming and show component changes have been implemented.

Thanks to our partners, volunteers, exhibitors and committee for making this event possible.

Message from the PresidentOn behalf of the Camrose Regional Exhibition Board of Directors, Management and Staff, I would like to welcome you to the 25th annual Canadian Bull Congress.

This year we will be celebrating our 25th year of bringing this event to you and, in that time, we have grown from a regional show to one that is international in scope. The Camrose Bull Congress Committee and staff have been working hard to ensure that once again the producers have an opportunity to showcase their beef. We hope that you have many opportunities to showcase and market your products and animals throughout the event. We would like to thank the many sponsors, exhibitors, producers, volunteers and staff for the work that is done to make this a world class event.

Thank You

Stan Skotniczny, PresidentCamrose Regional Exhibition Board of Directors

Message from the CountyOn behalf of County Council, County staff and the residents of Camrose County, I extend sincere congratulations to all those participating in the 25th Canadian Bull Congress.

A salute must go to those individuals, organizations and sponsors who had the vision and the ambition to start the Bull Congress 25 years ago. The cattle industry in Alberta has always been recognized worldwide for its innovation, its belief in the future and its total commitment to a healthy, vibrant industry. In the same manner, the CBC has embraced and used those same qualities to develop into a prominent, prestigious and widely recognized cattle show.

An outstanding feature of the Bull Congress is its attention to youth as shown by the many activities for young producers and future consumers. Truly, this part of the Congress is a statement of and a testament as to why this show will carry on for a great many years to come.

To all those who have been and who, today, are a part of the Canadian Bull Congress, from all of us, a sincere and heartfelt “Well Done!”

Don GregorwichReeve, Camrose Countyy

Message from the MinisterCanada’s agriculture industry has a reputation for high quality products and innovative ideas. It is a reputation that is well earned and recognized worldwide because of our commitment to research, technology and production. Events like the Canadian Bull Congress contribute greatly to the reputation of both the Alberta and Canadian brands, and play an important role in making our cattle industry one of the strongest and most recognizable in the world.

As Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, I am pleased to welcome you to this special event. The Canadian Bull Congress is a valued promoter of this country’s best products and livestock, and the popularity of this long-running event is a testament to the quality of participants and products that it attracts and presents each and every year.

The Canadian Bull Congress has a long and successful history, with almost a quarter of a century of service to our industry. Throughout that time, it has worked tirelessly in support of Alberta’s cattle industry, helping our beef industry grow domestically and internationally.

The Canadian Bull Congress is the perfect opportunity for the various players of the agricultural sector to network and share innovative ideas. Events like this provide an opportunity for both the national and provincial agriculture industries to work together to maintain and strengthen their competitive edge in the international market. On behalf of the Government of Alberta, best wishes to all participants for another successful Canadian Bull Congress.

Jack Hayden, Minister

Message from the MayorWelcome to the City of Camrose and the 2011 Canadian Bull Congress.

This annual event encourages the cattle industry to share ideas, innovation successes and challenges in their industry.

The City of Camrose and our entire region are very dependant on agriculture as an economic driver for our business community and numerous other non-profi t organizations.

The Canadian Bull Congress is a world class event that creates awareness and opportunities for both the cattle industry and agriculture as a whole.

We salute the Canadian Bull Congress and look forward to our partnership with this prestigious event.

Clarence Mastel, MayorCity of Camrose

LIABILITY INSURANCE INFORMATIONFORWARD THE CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE FORM TO YOUR INSURANCE AGENT, WHO CAN FAX THE COMPLETED FORM DIRECTLY TO CANADIAN BULL CONGRESS AT (780)672-8140.What is liability insurance and why is it important?Liability insurance covers claims made against you by third parties who allege that something you did or failed to do caused them some kind of bodily injury or property damage. The insurance protects you in two ways:• It will pay amounts you owe to a third party because of court judgement or an out-of-

court settlement of a claim.• It will provide you with a legal defence when a claim is made against you, regardless of

whether you were negligent or not.If you do not have liability insurance when a claim is made against you, you must pay your own legal costs and, if you are found liable, you will have to pay the settlement/judgement. The legal costs involved in fi ghting a claim can be substantial and, in today’s legal climate, claim settlements and awards are becoming even larger. Without insurance, you will have to use your assets to cover those costs. Why does Camrose Regional Exhibition care about your liability insurance? To make sure that both you and the CRE are protected against claims that may arise from your participation in the Canadian Bull Congress. We believe that if you do not have liability insurance in place while you are on our premises, CRE’s liability risk is increased. It is possible that your activities at the Canadian Bull Congress could result in someone getting injured or having property damaged, and then suing you. Some examples might be if your animal kicks a child passing by the stall and causes a serious injury, or if your animal gets loose on the way to the trailer and damages a vehicle.Lawyers typically name as many parties as possible in a lawsuit, so it is very likely that the CRE would be named in a suit against you, simply because the incident took place on our premises, even though we had nothing whatsoever to do with the incident (this is called ‘vicarious liability’). If the lawsuit is successful on the basis that, for example, you negligently failed to control your animal, a judgement will be awarded to the injured person.A legal principle called ‘joint and several liability’ means that every party named in the lawsuit could become responsible to pay the awarded even if the fi nding of negligence was solely against one. The effect of that, if you have either no liability insurance or insuffi cient coverage to pay the award and legal fees, is that the other parties who were named may end up paying the cost of your negligence. If that obligation were to fall on the CRE, our insurer may be required to pay and can then take action against you and your assets to recover what it has had to pay.Why does the CRE and City of Camrose wish to be named as Additional Insured on your policy? To ensure that, if the CRE and City of Camrose is named in a lawsuit against you alleging that your negligence caused the injury or damage, CRE is protected against vicarious liability as was explained above. This only applies if there is no negligence on the part of the CRE. Naming the CRE and City of Camrose as Additional Insured on your policy does not mean that you will be insuring the CRE’s negligence. Note that naming the CRE as ‘Additional Insured’ is very different from ‘Additional Named Insured’. If your insurance agent has questions, please have them call the CRE at (780)672-3640 for clarifi cation.

BULL-NANZA RAFFLE RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. An exhibitor can enter more than one bull. Entry fee of $100 applies for each entry.

2. If an exhibitor’s ticket is the winning ticket, he/she will not be allowed to choose their own bull.

3. Any bull entered into Bull-nanza Raffl e during CBC must be included in your private breeders’ pen.

4. All Bull-nanza entries will receive signage in order for them to be easily recognized by ticket buyers and public in general.

5. The bull must be owned by the exhibitor entering the raffl e. An affi davit must be completed and signed by bull owner to verify that the animal is eligible for transfer to a new owner if chosen.

6. The bull must be a yearling or a two-year-old. No mature bulls will be allowed. All entries must be ringed or have a humbug while in the show ring. All animals displayed in the Canadian Bull Congress must be tagged with a CCIA approved tag.

7. The owner of a bull that is chosen by the grand prize ticket winner will receive $7,500 paid by cheque. The Brand Inspector will inspect the winning bull, so the owner of the bull chosen must have the necessary paperwork ready. A cheque will not be issued until the Brand Inspector has given his okay.

8. There will be a maximum of 30 bulls.

9. Deadline for entering a bull is December 6, 2010.

10. No one under the age of 18 years may enter a bull or purchase a raffl e ticket or have their name put on the raffl e ticket.

11. Raffl e tickets will be sold at $40 per ticket. There are 250 tickets printed. All cheques must be payable to Camrose Regional Exhibition.

12. Committee members or members of their immediate family can enter a bull, and committee members may purchase raffl e tickets.

13. There will be no cancellations or refunds on purchased raffl e tickets or entered bulls. Substitutions will be allowed for the entered bulls up to 10:00 p.m., January 20, 2011.

14. Ticket sales will be cut off on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at approximately 11:30 a.m.

15. Ten names will be drawn from the barrel at the grand prize draw.

16. The 10 semi-fi nalists or representatives will enter the show ring and be present when the entered bulls parade into the show ring. The 10 names will be put back into a clean draw barrel.

17. The draw will then take place in reverse order with the last ticket in the draw barrel being the winning ticket and have the opportunity to pick the bull. Tickets that are drawn from tenth to second will be awarded donated prizes.

18. The grand prize draw will take place on Saturday, January 22, 2011, at approximately 3:30 p.m. or after the Pen of Three Bull Show in Camrose County Show Pavilion (Barn A) show ring at Camrose Regional Exhibition.

19. The grand prize winner must choose a bull when in the show ring. If the grand prize winner or their representative is not present, then the Bull Congress chairman will contact the winner by phone and arrangements will be made to choose an animal. If the prize, as chosen by the chairman, is not claimed within 24 hours of the draw, then the prize will be sold or put up for auction. A cheque will be given to the winner for the net proceeds from the sale or auction – with a minimum of $1,500 to be guaranteed by Canadian Bull Congress.

20. Possession of the bull takes place the moment the grand prize winner chooses the bull. This bull will not be removed from the show prior to 5:00 p.m. on January 22, 2011.

21. The winner or representative’s choice of bull is fi nal. No substitutions can be made after the choice has been made.

22. There is no cash in lieu of bull option. The winner must claim the bull as his/her prize. The raffl e winner is responsible for his own livestock transportation from the show.

23. Camrose Regional Exhibition, Canadian Bull Congress, members, families or other associates are agents of this draw only. We are not responsible for the breeding performance, soundness, body condition or any other defect of the animal chosen.

24. A veterinarian will be on site to insure entered animals are in overall good health.

25. Tickets will be available for purchase before the Canadian Bull Congress as well as at the show on the weekend.
