#CANADARED | 3

On behalf of Canada Soccer, I am pleased to welcome fans from across the country to BC Place, Vancouver, BC, for the open-ing match in CONCACAF Round 4 of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ Qualifi ers against Honduras, one of our fi ercest rivals dating back to the early 1980s.

As we have joined the group of 12CONCACAF nations competing to advance to the hexagonal round, there is plenty for which our Canadian soccer community should be excited. If the hiring of Benito Floro in 2013 was an indication of our com-mitment to the future success of our Men’s National Team on the international stage, the team’s recent performances - Canada having posted a record of fi ve wins, fi ve draws and two losses in 12 international matches so far this year - can only set the stage for the all-important journey ahead.

There is a role for all of us to play as weestablish Canada as a leading soccernation. As such, I would like to thank our fans that have responded to the invitation anddecided to join us on the Road to Russia. We would also call upon our entire soccercommunity to proudly and loudly demon-strate their support and continue to represent#CanadaRED from sea to sea to sea.

Together, we are #CanadaRED.

In CONCACAF Round 4, these 12 nations are split into three groups of four nations, with each group’s round-robin table scheduled to eliminate two teams by September 2016.

The last six nations will compete in a 2016-17 round-robin phase (commonly referred as the “Hex”) from which the top-three nations will qualify for 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ fi nals. CONCACAF’s fourth-best nation, meanwhile, will face Asia’s fi fth-best nation in an intercontinental playoff for one last chance to reach the Russia 2018 fi nals.

From the CONCACAF semi fi nals in 2012, nine nations have returned to the region’s fi nal 12 spots in 2015-16, while Antigua & Barbuda, Cuba and Guyana have all been eliminated. This time around, Haiti, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago have reached the CONCACAF semi fi nals for 2015-16.
