Daytona State College Campus Safety Emergency Telephone System Emergency telephones with direct access to the Campus Safety operator are located throughout the Daytona State College campuses and in all elevators. When used, the Campus Safety operator will ask if you need assistance or help. Please remain at the location until an officer arrives (if the situation is safe). Identification Cards All employees and students are issued identification cards. Campus Safety officers regularly check for this identification prior to allowing entrance when the campus or a building is not occupied. ID cards may be obtained at the Campus Safety office on the Daytona Beach Campus and at the Administration office on all other campuses. Sale & Use of Illegal Drugs & Alcohol In compliance with the Drug Free Schools and Campuses Act of 1989, Daytona State College prohibits the illegal use, purchase, sale, distribution, manufacture or possession of drugs and alcohol on its campuses, or at any college- related activity. This policy applies to all employees, students and visitors. Employees, students, and job applicants are required to receive information on and/or sign a Drug Free Certification form at the time of admission to the College. Weapons No student, employee or visitor is allowed to possess a weapon while on Daytona State College property. ZERO TOLERANCE. Crime Reporting & Awareness All students and employees of the campus community are to report known criminal acts. The proper procedure for everyone in the event of any concern is to contact Campus Safety by calling 506-4444, or to stop by Building 540 on the Daytona Beach Campus. In the event of immediate threat, danger, injury or criminal occurrence, you may also call the local authorities by dialing 911 (or 9-911 if applicable). To confidentially report a suspicious or criminal activity, call the Daytona State College HOTLINE- 506-4500. Daytona State College enjoys an excellent working relationship with local law enforcement agencies. During the course of any problem, the responding Campus Safety officer will obtain the information necessary to make a complete report for campus files. It is Daytona State College’s policy to report all felonies occurring on campus to the appropriate law enforcement agency. Felonies occurring off campus and reported to Campus Safety will be reported at the victim’s request. Campus Safety personnel are not police officers and are not empowered as such. The protective means used are restricting campus access and use to only those authorized students, staff, and visitors for reasonable and safe purposes. The inspection and maintenance of locks, doors, windows, lights and alarms are coordinated with the Facilities Services Department. Periodic classes and seminars are conducted on a variety of subjects designed to increase student and employee awareness of safety and security. When necessary, the Director of Campus Safety will disseminate written and telephonic precautionary announcements, as well as the posting of fliers, to faculty, staff and students. The Student Activities and the Campus Safety departments coordinate extra-curricular educational workshops in the following areas: Drug and Alcohol Abuse - emphasis is placed on preventive measures rather than intervention and treatment. However, the College does refer students/ employees to various treatment facilities; HIV/AIDS - emphasis is on the latest facts and methods to reduce risk of contracting aids; Campus Safety; Rape Awareness, Date Rape, Acquaintance Rape, Other Sex Offenses and Victim’s Awareness. Timely Warnings In the event a situation arises, in the judgment of the Director of Campus Safety, that constitutes an ongoing or continuing threat, a campus wide timely warning will be issued. This will be accomplished by disseminating written and telephonic announcements to faculty, staff and students and the posting of fliers. Sex Offenses and Misconduct Allegations of on-campus sex offenses will be reported to the appropriate authorities and also investigated as a violation of College policy. Violations of College policy are referred to the appropriate administrator for due process. Victims of off-campus sex offenses will, at their request, be referred to the Police, Rape Crises Center, Victims’ Advocate’s Office or the Daytona State College’s Counseling Center. Students will be advised of their right to notify proper law enforcement authorities, the importance of preserving evidence and their right to change academic situations if reasonably available. College personnel will assist the student when requested. Incidents involving a Disciplinary Hearing will result in: Unfounded-Not Guilty; Warning; Reprimand; Probation; Loss of Privileges; Restitution; Suspension or Expulsion from Daytona State College. During all phases of the disciplinary process, the accused and accuser are permitted to have others present with them. Emergency Broadcast Announcements In the event of weather related or other emergencies that cause the president to close one or all of the college campuses, the following radio stations will deliver information on the hour and half hour regarding the status of Daytona State College: FM: 89.7, 90.3, 97.3, 102.7 and AM: 1450 In addition to radio broadcasts you can also tune in to Daytona State Public Broadcasting-TV Channel 15, Volusia County’s official emergency broadcast station or call: 506-HELP(4357). Disclosure of Crime Statistics Campus Safety prepares this annual report to comply with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Crime Statistics Act. This report is prepared in cooperation with local law enforcement agencies surrounding our main campus and alternate sites.
