Community Baseline

The data from this impressive data pool (1008 total responses, 340 Spanish & 668 English) is most assistive as we continue to roll out our Healthy Choices campaign.

24% of our respondents eat out 2-3 times weekly. With those stating only once per month near 30%. 1 out of 4 eats out often. There is some potential messaging we can work toward.55% of respondents are fruit and vegetable conscious. This is a good start – but obviously an area where we can make some significant impact. In the spring of 2007 something very special started to formulate on the west side of Stanislaus County and northern Merced County - a dialogue by and between public sector leaders, community members, and the various healthcare entities providing services to the residents on the west side. From this dialogue came the West Side Healthcare Advisory Taskforce. The Advisory is about community, collaboration, and economic development for the west side.

In August of 2009 the taskforce implemented a multi-year community education campaign called “Healthier Choices for OUR West Side.” The Choices campaign has been designed with a three-pronged outreach targeting business, education, and the community.

The campaign's goals are very straightforward: to promote healthy life style choices, activities, information sharing, and opportunities with the citizens of the West Side of Stanislaus County and through this communications effort effect positive life style changes among residents.

This effort has been driven solely by the enthusiastic collaborative efforts of our community partners and has been well received and embraced by the community and the media. We are committed to continuing and expanding our efforts.

Cordially,

Jim DeMartiniWestside Healthcare Advisory Facilitator Stanislaus County Board of Supervisor, District Five
