Camp Lohikan’s Airport Transportation Services (SPECIAL TRANSPORTATION)

Camp Lohikan provides airport transportation service to and from 4 airports: Newark Airport in New Jersey (preferred), JFK or LaGuardia Airport in New York and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport in Avoca, Pennsylvania. If Special Airport Transportation Service is arranged for bringing your child to camp, a member of Camp Lohikan's transportation staff will meet your child at the airport and transport him/her to camp. If Special Airport Transportation Service is arranged for your child to travel back home, a member of Camp Lohikan's transportation staff will drive your child to the airport, check-in with the airline and escort the camper to the security entrance.

Please note that the Newark Airport is preferred because it is at least an hour closer to the camp than the JFK and LaGuardia Airports, especially if there is traffic... and there usually is. Also, JFK & LaGuardia Airports are larger and generally more busy. The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Airport is closest to the camp but there are only a few direct flights and airlines usually charge a premium for flying into this smaller airport.

Special Transportation TO CAMP:

UNACCOMPANIED MINOR - Depending upon the airline, children under the age of 15 are considered minors and parents are required to pay an additional fee for the airline's supervisory service provided to these children. With this service campers will be supervised by airline personnel when they debark the plane and remain supervised until they reach the security station and are met by the camp's staff.

Special Transportation FROM CAMP:

UNACCOMPANIED MINOR - When a camper is flying home after a stay at Camp Lohikan it is camp policy that the parent arrange for their airline's "unaccompanied minor" service. Arranging for "unaccompanied minor" status provides adult supervision to the child when the child travels from the security entrance at the departure airport to the security exit at the arrival airport. "Unaccompanied minor" status will also cover many of the expenses related to flight cancellations and delays, i.e., hotel overnights, additional meals. These expenses are the responsibility of the parent whether or not "unaccompanied minor" arrangements are made with the airline covered by the camp's transportation service.
