I would like to welcome all new families to our school. It isalways exciting to share Camp Hill with new families.

During the vacation, the P&C funded a full upgrade of theSchool of Arts kitchen which is used extensively by our Outof School Hours Care (OSHC) program throughout the year. This upgrade is a significant gain for the OSHC and schoolcommunity. Thank you to the P&C for supporting such a majorproject.

Congratulations to Mrs Paula Bryden who successfully appliedfor an Entrepreneurs of Tomorrow grant. This grant will enablethe school to provide innovative and exciting learningenhancement programs for our students. The grant will providestudents with the opportunity to gain firsthand experience inunderstanding and managing a digital technology project usingappropriate industry and entrepreneurial skills that are neededto nurture an idea from conception to fruition. I look forward tosharing the progress of this program over the next two years.

Out of School Hours Care (OSHC) Award

We are so proud to announce that theCHSIPS OSHC program has beenrecognised as an Approved Nature PlayEducation Provider by Nature Play QLD! Weare the first OSHC we know of in Australia toreceive this approval.

Nature Play QLD is a State Government body with a missionto increase the time Queensland children spend in unstructuredplay outdoors. It is founded on the understanding thatunstructured play outdoors - nature play - is fundamental to afull and healthy childhood.

Well done to our exceptional team at OSHC and to the P&C foroffering such a dynamic program to our families.

Classroom Parent Representative (CPR)Program

I would like to acknowledge and thank our CPR network fortheir support for school communications. Their support forfamilies in every class across our school really does make adifference and has already been copied in other schools - areflection of the benefits of this innovative program.

Lost Property

At the close of last term the school had acquired a considerableamount of lost property - from shoes to school winter jackets.Where items were named they were returned to the student, but unfortunately most of the items were NOT named and didnot find their way to their owners.

Please take the time to name all items that come to school. With weather changes jumpers/jackets come on and off duringthe day and items are often forgotten at the end of the schoolday. If named they will always find their way back to theindividual student.

Room Change

Over the holidays Mrs Elaine Felstead (Head of Curriculum) andI exchanged rooms on the senior campus. I have moved backto the Principal’s Office in the administration area.

The first week of Semester Two saw our Year 6 team off ontheir Canberra adventure - including flying to Sydney, overnightat the Dubbo zoo, a day in the snow fields and numerousactivities in Canberra. I am sure that the team will return tiredand keen to experience a warm Queensland weekend - but

also delighted with this great adventure. Thank you to the staffaccompanying the students during this trip.

Mrs Dunbar will continue her leave for Term 3. To ensuresmooth operations Mrs Wills will continue as Acting DeputyPrincipal and Mrs Scott will continue as class teacher in Year6B.

This term is always an exciting one, full of many school eventsand celebrations and I encourage everyone to monitor both theschool P&C calendar and website for date claimers.

I am enjoying the cooler weather and watching an old dog sleepas close to the oil heater as possible during the evenings – asimple pleasure.

Best wishesDeborah Driver

Welcome back to our intrepid travellers.

Deputy Principal’s ReportThe end of last term saw the excellent Out of the Box Festivalaimed at celebrating Early Childhood Education. The K8Children’s Symposium was a special highlight which invited anumber of high achieving students in Year 3 from a range ofBrisbane Schools to take part, work together and create.

This year the Symposium ran two days of workshops asking forstudents to design the city of Brisbane for the future. Studentshad to imagine Brisbane in the year 2035, brainstorm ideas, work together in teams and design, plan and construct a modelof the future city. Students worked with education and designmentors in considering aspects of energy, transport, healthyliving, population etc. Students undertook roles of mayor andcouncillors with a range of portfolios.

The five students who attended from Camp Hill conductedthemselves extremely well and were fully engaged in the taskswhich they were given. Some of their comments are as follows:-

• Being invited to be a part of the K-8 Symposium wasa highlight of my year so far. We were inspired byexperts to imagine, plan and design our futureBrisbane with teams of 8 year olds from a range ofschools. I felt like I was travelling into the future asthis creative city came to life. My favouriteexperiences were building and creating our plan aswell as making decisions for Brisbane 2035! Natasha

Habits of the MindThe Prep and Year 1 classes engaged with ‘Felix’ and ‘FionaFriendly’ late last term. These characters work hand in handwith ‘Gabby Get Along’ as we try very hard not to make someof the poor choices that ‘Bartholomew Bad Friend’ makes!

Delving into the topic of BELONGING with the Year 2 classes, the children were asked ‘what does it mean to feel like youbelong’. Here are some replies:

“You belong to people who care about you.”“People who look you in the eye.”“You share feelings.”“You feel safe and wanted.”“You are loved.’“It’s in your heart and you feel love.”

And then the question, ‘where do you belong?’

“In my Mother’s arms.”“Here at school.”“In the heart of my family.”“In my home.”“In my class.”

“Optiminds” required the Year 4 children to work in small teams, think ‘outside the box’ and prepare and present solutions tosome very challenging task cards.

A number of children responded with wonderment and awe(Habit 12) after viewing David Attenborough’s fabulous threeminute snip of the amazing Lyre Bird making camera and chainsaw sounds.

We begin Third Term re-focussing onCONSIDERATION.

Our “You Can Do It” characters Pete andPenny Persistence will help us to keep ongoing even when we feel like giving up. Theyhave much to share with us this term.

By getting along and working together we can achieve so muchmore as “Together We Achieve.”
