Medium shot is used to show an action of a dialogue scene in a film.

Close up is when you are only able to see mostly the face or an object. You are not able to see much of the background in a close up shot.

An extreme close up shot on a face would show you either the mouth or the eye.

An extreme long shot can be taken from a few miles away.
