Police & Crime Commissioners wereintroduced by the Police Reform and SocialResponsibility Act 2011, which came into forceon September 15, 2011

Every commissioner will be held to account by the publicvia the ballot box. They will also be held to account fortheir performance by a Police and Crime Panel.

Panels will comprise one elected representative (councillors and,where relevant, elected mayors) from each local authority withinthe force area and two independent members or co-optees

In Cambridgeshire details on the make up of the Panel is beingfinalised for June. This work is being progressed by CambridgeshireCounty Council and Peterborough Unitary Authority
