2n "$34 the Society won a key legal suit 5known as the ose !ase6 against the oyal!ollege of hysicians in the )ouse of %ords, which ruled that apothecaries could both

prescribe and dispense medicines. This led directly to the evolution of the apothecaryinto today(s general practitioner of medicine.
