Principal’s Report Dear Families and Friends, Student Learning Reports and Interviews On Thursday 23rd June, your child will be bringing home their Learning Portfolio which will contain samples of the work your child has completed throughout the term. Your child’s Semester 1 report will also be available on Compass for you to view or download on Thursday 23rd June. Please take the time sit down with your child and look at all the great work they have completed this term and also read through your child’s report with your child. This is a great way to acknowledge the importance of this reporting format and to help your child see that their learning is valued. During the second week of Term 2, we will be holding our Student Learning Interviews. These interviews are a very important part of our reporting process and they allow time for you and your child to talk with the classroom teacher about your child’s current academic achievements and to outline your child’s learning goals for the remainder of the year. This year, registration for the interviews will be managed though our Compass platform. The registration process will be available on Compass from Thursday 23rd June. Information on how to book an interview time will be distributed shortly.
2017 Foundation (Prep) Enrolments We are currently taking enrolments for next year’s Foundation students. If you haven’t already received an Enrolment pack, please collect one from the school office, and then return the completed form as soon as possible with a copy of Birth Certificate and Immunisation History Statement. We would like to have enrolment forms returned to the office by the end of this term to enable us to complete the Department of Education and Training Enrolment Census which needs to be submitted to plan grade structures for next year. If you know of any friends or family members who intend sending their child to Strathfieldsaye PS next year, please let them know that we are currently taking enrolments and that we are very happy to meet with them if they would like a tour of the school or more information about our school.
Parent Reflections Our School Review Process opens up the perfect opportunity to gather a broad range of perspectives regarding what has worked well and what hasn’t worked so well at Strathfieldsaye PS in the last 4 years. To help us gain an accurate picture of our progress, I would really appreciate feedback from as many families as possible. A link has been created on Compass to a Reflection Sheet, so if families could please complete the Parent Reflection Sheet by Tuesday 14th June and then email it back to me on [email protected]; or drop it in to the school office, it would be very much appreciated. Thanks for supporting us in this important process. I look forward to reading your responses and working together to make our school an even better place for our fantastic students.
Classroom Helpers It is always pleasing to see our wonderful classroom helpers volunteering their time to support students with their reading each morning. Research has shown that parent engagement in learning plays a large part in students becoming successful learners, so we thank our parents for their valuable contribution in this important area. If you are one of these wonderful volunteers, please remember to call into the Office and sign the visitors register before and after helping in the classroom for OH&S purposes. Any volunteers or visitors to the school are required to sign this register. Thanks once again for your support. Strathfieldsaye & District Community Enterprise (SDCE) I am pleased to announce that an application for a grant of $4,000 to cover the cost of uniforms for our sports program has been successful. On page two of this newsletter you can read the letter received from SDCE and I would be grateful if you could support the Enterprise in the ways suggested.
Regards,
Cindi Bruechert

Blankets and coats for the Homeless and Refugees Two of our senior students, Sarah and Sophie, are being very community minded and collecting blankets and coats for the homeless and refugees who don’t have winter clothes. If you have any of these items sitting around and not being put to good use, please bring them to room 023 between 8:50 and 9:00am. All old blankets and clothes will be washed before they are distributed. Congratulations! Your application has been successful.
On behalf of Strathfieldsaye and District Community Enterprise (SDCE) I am pleased to advise Strathfieldsaye Primary School has been awarded a $4,000 grant towards your sports uniform project.
Our grants program is made possible thanks to the generosity of our partners Bendigo Bank and Bendigo Telco, which provide us with a sustainable income stream to give back to community through grants and sponsorships in return for increased banking and telecommunications business.
To put it simply, the more accounts opened with our partners by people indicating they want to support our community the more money is available to fund amazing grassroots projects, just like yours, throughout Strathfieldsaye and the surrounding area.
As a successful recipient, we encourage you to show your support for SDCE in the following ways:
Say thanks - Promote our support to your members or
friends. We can help you with logos and promotional material.
Be an SDCE champion - Encourage your members to
open/link their accounts with Bendigo Bank or Bendigo Telco so more funds can be returned to community in the future. A Bendigo Bank and/or Bendigo Telco staff member will be in touch with you to offer assistance.
Connect with us - Invite SDCE to your events or a
meeting to give a presentation. We want to know what you’re up to and let you know our news too.
Keep us in the loop – Send us a report and some
pictures of your project when it’s finished or after 12 months. We love to see your stories. Congratulations once again, and good luck making Strathfieldsaye and Districts a better community with your project.
Yours sincerely, Eddie Castles Chairman Strathfieldsaye & Districts Community Enterprise
