POSTER/PANEL INFORMATION SUBMISSION GUIDELINES  The  call  for  conference  presentations  is  for  the  following  purposes:  

•   STUDENT  POSTERS-­-­-­-­  MPHA  is  proud  to  be  an  avenue  to  highlight  great  student  work  in  public  health  in  Mississippi  through  our  Poster  Sessions  at  Mississippi’s  premier  public  health  conference.  Our  selected  top  students  submissions  win  travel  stipend  support  to  showcase  their  work.  

•   PROFESSIONAL  POSTERS  OR  BEST  PRACTICE  PANEL  PRESENTATION-­-­-­  MPHA  also  recognizes  the  contributions  of  public  health  professionals  and  invites  their  participation  for  consideration  as  a  poster  presenter  or  to  participate  on  one  invited  panel  as  an  oral  presenter  regarding  best  practices  in  public  health.  This  is  not  a  general  call  for  conference  presentations.  Expenses  paid  by  submitter's  organization.  

All  submissions  must  be  complete  and  contain  a  methods  and  results  description.  In  addition,  submissions  must  focus  on  the  following  public  health  topics:    •   Infectious  or  Chronic  Disease  (risk  factors-­  i.e.  disease  transmission,  obesity,  tobacco,  

nutrition,  or  physical  activity)  •   Maternal  and  Children’s  Health  •   Health  Disparities  /  Social  Determinants  of  Health  •   Mental  Health  /  Behavioral  Health  /  Health  Promotion    •   Epidemiology  /  Environmental  Health  •   Public  Health  Policy  /  Health  Reform  /  Public  Health  Systems  Research  •   Public  Health  Emergency  Preparedness  and  Response  /  Injury  Prevention

CALL FOR POSTERS AND PROFESSIONAL BEST PRACTICE PANEL PRESENTATION

FOR  STUDENT  POSTERS:    The  Mississippi  Public  Health  Association  (MPHA)  invites  undergraduate  and  graduate  students  to  submit  poster  ideas  for  the  2016  MPHA  conference.  Students  with  top  poster  submissions  will  receive  a  travel  stipend,  waived  registration  fee,  and  waived  hotel  night  (if  traveling  over  60  miles)  in  exchange  for  participation.      To  be  eligible,  students  must  attend  a  college  or  university  located  in  Mississippi  and/or  be  an  intern  with  an  institution  located  in  the  state  and  become  a  Student  Member  of  MPHA  prior  to  the  meeting  (student  dues  are  $12.00  per  year).  Student  poster  presentation  ideas  must  be  submitted  on  or  before  AUGUST  29,  2016  and  must  follow  the  presentation  guidelines  as  outlined  by  MPHA.      FOR  PROFESSIONALS  /  POSTER/PANEL  PRESENTATIONS:    Professionals  can  submit  ideas  for  a  poster  presentation  or  for  consideration  to  present  your  work  during  a  single  invited  oral  panel  session  highlighting  best  practices  in  the  state.    Professionals  may  apply  for  one  type  of  session  by  selecting  poster  or  oral  panel  preference  on  the  attached  contact  sheet.  This  is  not  a  general  call  for  Conference  presentations.  Poster  submissions  will  have  greater  opportunity  for  selection  since  the  oral  panel  discussion  will  be  limited  to  the  top  FOUR  submissions.    To  be  eligible  to  present,  professionals  must  become  a  Regular  Member  of  the  MPHA  prior  to  the  meeting.  Regular  membership  dues  are  $30  per  year.  Professional  presentation  submissions  must  be  submitted  on  or  before  AUGUST  29,  2016.  You  must  also  register  to  attend  the  Conference.      POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES  Posters  should  be  no  more  than  4  feet  high  by  5  feet  wide  (4  X  5).    If  a  poster  submission  is  selected,  he/she  will  be  required  to  present  the  poster  during  MPHA's  2016  conference.  The  poster  elements  should  be  similar  to  those  submitted  for  consideration.    All  wording  should  be  readable  and  formatted  with  graphics  clearly  presented.  A  sample  format  is  included  below:

PROFESSIONALS ONLY: ORAL PANEL PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Up  to  FOUR  professionals  will  be  selected  to  present  during  a  single  one  hour  fifteen  minute  workshop  session  scheduled  on  Thursday,  OCTOBER  13,  2016.    Each  panelist  will  have  15  minutes  to  present.  There  is  no  compensation  or  stipend  available  for  professionals.  If  you  are  a  professional  interested  in  poster  presentation  only,  select  the  poster  presentation  preference  on  the  Author  Contact  Sheet  provided.    

STEPS FOR SUBMISSION

Step  1:  Submit  ONE  idea  for  selection  by  the  MPHA  Poster/Panelist  Submission  Review  Committee  by  complete  the  following  Author  Contact  Sheet.  Please  note  that  you  will  just  be  submitting  an  abstract  of  the  project  in  the  Author  Contact  Sheet  and  that  there  is  a  250  word  limit.    Submit  your  completed  Author  Contact  Sheet  to: communications@mspha.org.   Step  2:  An  email  confirmation  will  be  sent  acknowledging  receipt  of  the  submission.  Step  3:  Those  selected  to  participate  will  be  notified  by  SEPTEMBER  19,  2016  and  provided  with  conference  and  presentation  logistics.  Students  will  be  provided  with  travel  scholarship  information.      Step  4:  If  you  are  selected  to  participate,  then  you  can  begin  to  develop  your  poster  or  panel  presentation.  Be  sure  to  allow  extra  time  for  poster  printing  prior  to  the  conference.  

POSTER AND PANEL FORMATTING GUIDELINES

Title:  Include  a  title  on  the  topic.  The  title  should  be  written  in  sentence  case.  Name  of  Author(s):  Include  the  name  of  each  person  presenting,  directly  under  the  title,  and  list  each  learning  institution/organization.  Background/Purpose:  Provide  a  background  or  purpose  (reason)  for  conducting  the  research,  project,  and/or  study.  Objective:  In  this  section,  provide  the  objective  for  the  research  design.  Methods:  Ensure  that  methods  and  materials  used  to  conduct  the  project  are  identified.  Results:  Provide  main  findings  of  the  project  and/or  study.  This  section  may  also  include  data  analyses.  Future  Practice:  Provide  a  summary  of  how  the  results  may  be  used  for  future  public  health  practice.
