The Red Storm will open up against the No. 2/2 Oregon Ducks on Friday morning, marking the second matchup against a nationally ranked op- ponent for St. John’s this season. The last time the Red Storm defeated a nationally ranked opponent was on May 10, 2012 as it defeated then-No. 24/25 Syracuse, 2-1, in the BIG EAST Quarterfinals. This weekend’s matchups against No. 2/2 Oregon, Grand Canyon and North Dakota will be the first meetings in program history between those teams. 12-14). Last weekend, San Diego State went 1-4 at the Mary Nutler Collegiate Classic where it took on three na-tionally ranked teams before beating Stanford, 11-5.

• SanDiegoStatefinishedthe2014seasonwitha40-19overallrecordaftera1-2performanceattheNCAATempeRegional, defeating Dartmouth, 8-0, while dropping a pair of games to No. 13/13 Michigan.

• Leading the San Diego State offense is Kayla Bufardeci (.351 avg., 2 2B, 1 HR, 9 RBI, .486 slug.) and Lorena Bauer (.326 avg., 4 2B, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 3 BB, .558 slug.).

• In the circle, the Aztecs are led by Erica Romero who holds a 6-5 record and a 3.91 ERA after throwing three com-plete games with 37 strikeouts in 62.2 innings of work.

• The Antelopes pitching staff is led by Taylor Nowlin who has made 14 appearances, starting in six games with a 3-4 record and a 4.82 ERA.

• Head Coach Ann Pierson is in her 12th season with Grand Canyon, leading the Antelopes to the WAC Championship titleinitsfirstyearasaDivisionIinstitution.

Chasing Down History• AfterastellarfirstthreeyearswiththeRedStorm,seniorErin Burner is on

her way to inking a spot in multiple categories of the St. John’s all-time record books.

• With the help of 11 doubles last season and four so far in 2015, Burner is 12 shy of matching Chelsea Durning’s 45 career mark from 2008-11.

• Leading the team with 14 home runs in 2014, Burner remains only 12 long balls short of the record (42) set by Kacee Cox from 2008-12.

• The senior also holds a career batting average of .337 (177--for-525), put-ting her within striking distance of the program record of .350, held by Jo Sherlock (2003-06).

Red Storm Rookies Were Red Hot In Collegiate Debut• In their opening weekend with the Red Storm, the freshmen trio of Han-

nah Anderson (4-for-9), Lauren Zick (6-for-14) and Savannah Warren (2-for-3) have stepped up at the plate, combining for six of the team’s 13 hits against UMES on Feb. 8.

• Anderson led the Red Storm to victory with a walk-off single on opening night,cappingoffafive-runbottomoftheseventhtogiveSt.John’san8-7win over Presbyterian (Feb. 6).

• Freshman McKenzie Murray (2-0,1.62ERA)pickedupherfirstcollegiatewin in the walk-off thriller, pitching 1.2 innings of hitless relief before pick-ing up a complete-game victory with a four-hit performance against UMES, allowing only one earned run while striking out three.

• One week later, in her collegiate debut, freshman Krystal Puga would open the weekend going 2-for-3 against local rival Fordham at the USF President Day Weekend Tournament (Feb. 13). The rookie would then pick up her firstcollegiatehomerunwithagame-tyingtwo-runshotagainstCalStateNorthridge on Feb. 24.

Competing Against The USA Softball Top 50 “Watch List”• The Red Storm will compete against four members of the USA Softball

Collegiate Player of the Year Top 50 “Watch List” in 2015: Annie Aldrete (Tennessee), Cheridan Hawkins (Oregon), Janelle Lindvall (Oregon), Janie Takeda (Oregon).

• St. John’s was able to hold then-No. 11/14 Tennessee’s Annie Aldrete hitless in its game against the Lady Vols on Sunday, Feb. 15, holding the sopho-more catcher to an 0-for-3 performance on the day.

Battling The Best• Head coach Amy Kvilhaug and her staff pride themselves on developing

a tough schedule in order to test their squad against the best teams from around the country, and the 2015 slate is no different.

• This season, the Red Storm will face nine teams from the 2014 NCAA Tournament, seven conference champions and a total of 33 teams from 19 different conferences.

• St. John’s will play against three teams from the NFCA/USA Today Preseason Top 25: No. 2 Oregon, No. 13 Tennessee and No. 25 DePaul. Hofstra also received two votes in the poll.

2014 National Ranking Summary• Asateam,theRedStormfinishedthe2014seasonrankedseventhinthe

nation in double plays per game (0.53) after leading the conference with an impressive program-record 27 double plays turned.

• Individually, Tori Free ended the year ranked 54th in the nation in shutouts (six) and 60th in hits allowed per seven innings (5.33) while Erin Burner was 51st in slugging percentage (.722), 52nd in home runs per game (0.27), and 54th in home runs (14).

Red Storm Picked To Finish Second In BIG EAST• Afterahistoricseasonin2014,theRedStormwasselectedtofinishsecond

in the 2015 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches’ Poll, earning one of the league’s eightfirst-placevotes.

• DePaultookfirstplaceinthepoll,earningsixfirst-placevotesand48overallpoints while the Red Storm was only six points back with 42. Georgetown earnedthefinalfirst-placevotetotakethirdwith36votes.

• Regular-season conference action will kickoff on Saturday, March 21 with a rematch of the 2014 BIG EAST Championship as defending champion DePaul heads to Queens to take on St. John’s on Red Storm Field.

A Season To Remember• The Red Storm is coming off a historical season in 2014 where it recorded its

firstwinningseasonsince2004,finishingtheyearwitha28-23(.549)overallrecord to advance to the second-ever BIG EAST Championship game in pro-gram history.

• St.John’salsosettheprogramrecordwith12conferencewinsin2014,fin-ishing the regular season with a 12-8 BIG EAST mark.

• The Red Storm also set the program’s single-season record with 27 double plays turned, breaking the previous record of 21 set in 2006.

Red Storm Field Project• Since the beginning of the 2014 season, the Red Storm has been working

hard to raise money for an indoor batting facility that will include batting tunnels and locker rooms that the St. John’s softball team could use to con-tinue its vigorous training throughout the tough winter months.

St. John’s Softball On ESPN3 and BEDN• The Red Storm will see a combined 16 games carried live in H.D.-quality

across millions of homes in 2015 with 12 games on ESPN3 and four on the newly established BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).

• St. John’s will open the ESPN3 schedule with a doubleheader against Dart-mouth (March 19) before broadcasting a rematch of the 2014 BIG EAST Championship with DePaul on March 21-22.

• After a non-conference matchup against LIU Brooklyn (March 25), the Red Storm will round out its ESPN3 schedule with a pair of weekend series against Georgetown (April 2 and 4) and Villanova (May 2-3).

• BEDN will stream the doubleheader at home against Providence (April 11) before heading out to Omaha, Nebraska, to broadcast the doubleheader matchup on the road against Creighton (April 25).

On Deck• The Red Storm will next head to Washington, D.C. to compete in the 2015

Colonial Classic from March 6-8.
