Read, Write IncPhonics is a method of teaching people to read by correlating sounds with symbols in an alphabetic writing system.

Read Write Inc. Phonics is a complete literacy programme, for 4 to 7 year-olds learning to read and write and for 7 and 8 year-olds needing to catch up quickly.

It is a fun, engaging and systematic way of teaching your child phonics and how to read. This session will be daily in groups appropriate to your child’s next step. This will include learning sounds, blending sounds to read words, reading a book with their partner and comprehension tasks.

How we plan:●Long term planning-this provides an overview of the year.●Medium term planning-provides us with a half term view.●Short term planning-is a weekly view of the lessons.

We follow the New National Curriculum when planning our teaching and learning.

Previous assessment and the children’s interests inform planning to ensure children are motivated as and moving forward in their learning.

Assessment:●Teacher assessments are gathered through out the academic year-based on professional judgment and using the appropriate criteria.

●All of this data is then logged onto our pupil tracking system which helps us to set targets and monitor each child’s progress accurately and effectively offering the correct support and guidance.

We will be using an electronic Learning Journey to track your child’s progress which allows us to efficiently collect evidence of your child’s learning and share it with you. This software is called Tapestry and will be ready to use once we have completed our baseline assessments.
