Scheme Data Sheet Scheme Name: Aldi Retail Outlets (Brecon, Cross Hands, Haverfordwest, Llanelli) Form of Contract: JCT Minor Works Value: £6,500,000 Programme: 2008 to 2009 __________________________________________________________________________________ jbhl.co.uk Page 1 Principal Contractor: Jones Brothers (Henllan) Ltd Design Responsibility: Client Client: Aldi Stores (Cross Hands, Brecon, Haverfordwest & Llanelli) Description / Key Delivery Features: The work entailed groundwork and foundation works, erection of modular steelwork framed structures, installation of profiled sheeting and glazing, walling, drainage works, access roads, soft and hard landscaping, and associated delivery areas and customer parking. Relevance: The schemes were CDM notifiable projects where JBHL were appointed Principal Contractor under the CDM Regulations 2007. The Cross Hands store involved an extension to the existing store and working alongside a fully operational asset. This demanded having complete empathy with the safety and wellbeing of both Aldi stores staff and members of the general public. Traffic management plans had to be drawn up for all projects and in particular where we worked in close proximity to road traffic for the S278 access roads. We had to work closely with the designer and CDM Coordinator to realise economies in construction through applying value engineering principles. Many of the tradesmen engaged on these projects had the same competencies and skills to ensure Value Adding Potential.

Challenges  Met  /  Solutions  Provided:   JBHL,  Aldi,  the  Designer  and  CDM  Coordinator  worked  as  a  cohesive  team  where  everyone  worked  in  the  spirit  of  a  partnership  to  ensure  that  the  projects  were  delivered  to  time  and  within  agreed  budget.  Testimony   to   this   is   that   what   started   off   as   the   contract   for   one  project  ended  up  being  applied  to  three  further  stores.

We   had   clear   visibility   of   the   work   programme   and   were   able   to  effectively  deploy  resources  and  juggle  work  commitments  to  satisfy  Aldi  and  JBHL  needs.

Early   contractor   input   helped   ensure   that   quality   and   efficiency  benefits  were  fully  realised.  This  input  also  helped  promote  effective  teamworking  and  created  a  sense  of  belonging  which  served  us  well  for  the  duration  of  the  contract.

The  scope  of  works  increased  from  one  to  four  stores  owing  to  JBHL  quality  and  delivery  success.

Principal  Supply  Chain  Partners:   Steel  Frame     Cladding     Mechanical     Electrical         Refrigeration         Security  Doors     Internal  Fit  Out

All  subcontractors  are  included  on  JBHL  Approved  Supply  Chain  List.
