Cobaki Little Theatre. Above are just one of the acts seen by our audience at our May show. We

thank all who supported and congratulated us, with cards, phone calls and word of mouth on our

performances over the three nights. It is really appreciated by all the cast. We enjoyed bringing

you plenty of laughs combined with very fine singing. It was very pleasing to receive com-

ments from visitors who had not seen any of our shows before, they were amazed at the standard

of the show. I would like to give a big thank you to all our cast. There was never a time when

someone who was asked to play a part or wear a certain costume that they refused. That was very

obvious by the costumes worn by some of our members, all adding to the success of the show.

All the rehearsal time proved to be well worth the effort. We are having a little rest for a few

weeks then we will be starting rehearsals for our next show in Oct 24-25-26th

Social Club News.

It hardly seems a month since our last Cobba News Report as the weeks and months are flying by!!

Mothers Day was well attended by 120 residents and their families, everyone enjoyed the music

from Geoff Hayhow. A delicious hot roast lunch was served to the tables, our big oven let us down

at the last minute BUT with Bill Lafferty to the rescue the lunch was only 15 minutes late! Great

work Bill. Thanks to all the committee for making it a great day.

We were ready for bad weather last happy hour with the blue blinds and new gas heaters in place

but they were not needed, a good crowd enjoyed the evening filling up on yummy Beef Hot Pot,

just the thing for this time of the year. Now we have the gas heaters cold nights will not be a worry.

LAKESIDE TAVERN nights are progressing well, around 40 people attending. We love these

nights as we can relax over a drink and a chat with the residents. You are always welcome to bring

your evening meal or fire up the Barbie.

CHRISTMAS IN JULY .We are about to start our plans for our Christmas in July Gala Dinner.

There is a poster on the Social Club notice board giving you all the details about the evening. Book-

ing forms will be out very soon, this will be a FUN-FUN–FUN night.

SATURDAY MORNING RAFFLES. The results of these raffles are up on the Social Club notice

board every Saturday morning after they are drawn. Make sure you are in it by having your money

out for the collectors.

BIG THANK YOU, to all those willing helpers who help us tidy up after happy hour, we do

appreciate it. Your help does lighten our work load of cleaning up after functions.

We would like to wish Betty & Bill Lafferty a safe and happy holiday as they fly off to

Bali. We will miss them both. This holiday will be a change from washing dishes for Bill.

SHIRLEY‟S BUS Trip. Due to cancellations last trip, we were unable to refund monies paid.

Even so a great day at the Broncos was had by all. You can‘t beat the meal that they put on for us.

Our next trip will be to Caboolture Sports Club. at the cost of $25 on Wednesday JUNE 17th.

You will receive morning tea, 2 course lunch, entertainment and return trip home.

The bus will be departing the village at 8 15 am. Money to be in BOX 32 by June 10th. Shirley G

Piggabeen Deviation - Up-Date

With the gate open I couldn‘t resist driving in to have a look at where the Council is up to with our

desperately needed by-pass. The road is kerbed right up to behind the corner shop. The road bed at

present is only gravel. I found three workmen at the far end who were erecting Koala Fences.

No actual road making was going on at that time. Twice last year and once this year the information

from the Council was a usable road by June 1st. There is no way this will happen. Watch this space

while we try to get some good news. Myrna

This is the beautiful story of Irene & John Smith, from

house 40. Irene arrived in the village 6 months before John.

They had both lost their partners before moving to the vil-

lage in 1994. Irene in house 61 and John behind her in

house 40. Irene being neighbourly, popped her head over

the fence and asked John if he would like a cup of tea. She

didn‘t expect the answer she received.

― Not if it‘s a tea bag‖. Well that was getting off to a very

good start!! Later Irene had her say when she said to John.

― You‘re going out to-night and it‘s going to cost you $10‖.

it was a concert at Twin Towns to listen to a Irish singer.

Their first night out to-gether was at Seagulls from 9.00pm to 2.00 am playing the pokies!!!!

In the early days John enjoyed nights at Happy Hours Irene went occasionally. They married on

13th January 1996 being the first couple to marry in the village. The ceremony was conducted

in the hall. All their family were there to help them celebrate their marriage. (Their wedding

photo above). John came to Australia as a $10 Pom in 1956, he lived in Sydney then Bribie Is-

land before moving into the village, while Irene lived in Liverpool ( Sydney) before moving to

the village. John celebrated his 88th birthday with family on January 12th and Irene will cele-

brate her 87th birthday on June 27th. They are going out to Lunch to celebrate . Of late John

has had to give up driving and sold his car at aged 86. He had been driving since 1938. Irene has

had bad health but John has always been there looking after her. Until recently you would see

them on the pokie trips arranged now by Shirley Goldsmith. Since Irene moved into the village

her daughter and grand-daughter have also moved in. It‘s quite a family affair. Irene assured me

that as a husband John would get 100% for the great man he has been to her. It was a real delight

talking to this lovely couple enjoying life with each other. They have had their share of ill health

but that isn‘t stopping them enjoying their life together.

Molly was driving with her three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in

the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As Molly was reeling from

the shock, she heard her 5-year-old shout from the back seat, ―Mom! That lady isn't wearing a

seat belt!‖

birthday celebrations on June 27th.

What‟s on in the Village

After the ―Big Wet‖ it will be good to get out of the house. All your village clubs are waiting

to make you welcome, so support the Leaders by turning up for some fun. Even though you

could be learning something like Bingo, dancing, cards, or craft it‘s still all fun and you meet the

nicest people, just like yourselves.

LIBRARY :- Not much to report this month. Jim is as always a great help with keeping the

library in order. Keep the DVD‘s coming as they are very popular. As you all know, we are open

24/7 including holidays and there is something for everyone. Happy reading Ian

GOLF CROQUET:-The rain held us back a little this last few weeks but we are back on the

lawn having fun. We would like more players to make the games a little more competitive. Our

very enthusiastic regulars are playing better and better under the excellent coaching provided by

Graham. It‘s physically gentle and mentally challenging. Come along at 9am on Saturday

mornings and try it out. All equipment provided. See you there. Hannah

AQUA AEROBICS:-With Winter fast approaching it was time to hang up the cossies. We

will be in recess until 5th October 2009 (weather permitting) We‘re pretty sure the regulars will

be back but how about some new faces. Most of the exercise comes from laughing with some

help from the aerobics. Join us in October. Meanwhile good health to you all. Tess.

TRIVIA:-Well this months Trivia was different to say the least. At about quarter to six the

lights in the Village went out. At about 6.25 in the pitch dark Roy & Val found their way to the

Hall. No-one was there. They hung around until about twenty to seven and as no-one was about

and there was still no lights they went home. At quarter to seven the lights came back on but by

that time Roy & Val had decided the results for the evening. Winners were Roy & Val, Runners

up– Roy & Val. Third Place (you‘ll never guess! Yes, Roy & Val. They also won the Lucky Door

Prize. (Some people have all the luck) They had such a good time that they will be hosting

Trivia on Wednesday 3rd June. Come on down and give them a bit of competition. You don‘t

have to be Einstein. You do need to like a good laugh and meeting nice people. See you at

6.30pm on Wednesday 3rd June at the Hall. Roy,Val & Myrna & Sisters.

BOWLS:-Things are a little quiet these last few weeks on the Bowls front although the noise

we generate each Monday morning belies that fact as we always enjoy ourselves. We often get

people who are waiting for the bus popping their heads in the door to see what all the racket is

about. Anyone wanting to find out can come and join us and have a go. New players will be

made very welcome. We start at 9.30am Mondays in the Rec.Hall. See you there. Alf

BINGO:-Our numbers are down, we urgently need some new players to join us. Our prizes for

the day depend on the number of players. We have some very eager and regular players who en-

joy their afternoon. We urge anyone who would like to try Bingo to come along. We don‘t call

quickly, giving everyone a chance to go home with a win. There is a cuppa available plus good

company. We would love to have you join us. Mondays 1.30pm in the hall. Jean & Irene

LINE DANCING:- We are a small but happy group enjoying what we do. We don‘t always

get the moves right but we have heaps of fun giving it a go. The music is great. The whole ses-

sion is ―feel good‖ stuff. Why not come along and try or just pop in to watch and have a cuppa

with a great bunch of Cobakites. Thurs. from 9 to 11.30am Elizabeth

COMPUTERS:- I see some dealers are starting to talk of Pentium being obsolete and even

Dual Core processors as ‗Old‘. About two years or so?-how‘s that for quick ageing! It seems that

Quad Core is becoming the ‗entry level‘ now. With Terrabytes of hard disc and 8 Gigabytes of

memory, superfast USB 3 around the corner, we‘ll all soon be driving rocket ships! Join us we

are there to help every Fridays at 10.00am in the D.K.Centre . Why not join us for some fun

and maybe some enlightenment? There‘s always something to learn about computers.. Mac

CRAFT:- We are all a happy friendly group doing our own thing, there are some knitting, mak-

ing coat- hanger covers, lace trimmed, other making cards, but it all stopped to wish Hannah a

happy 80th birthday with a yummy afternoon tea and of course a birthday cake last week.

Come along and join us in the hall every Thursday from 1.00 to 3.00 pm. Clarice

SNOOKER:-We had our monthly B.B.Q on Wed. 15th May, the attendance was not good we

would like more to attend. With Trevor & Daphne Hardy away on holidays, Bruno volunteered

to make the salad ( Daphne is our normal salad maker) The salads were excellent, thanks Bruno

Doing a very good job as our helper with the B.B.Q was John Thomas. Lucky winner of the

bottle of whiskey was Bruce Kettle. Any new fellow in the village wishing to join the Snooker

Club, all you have to do is turn up in the afternoon and introduce yourself to Pat( duty manager)

Tredrea. Our next B.B.Q. is on Wed 10th June we hope to see more join us, it‘s always a good

night. We look forward to welcoming more any afternoon. Keep potting.

SINGLE GIRLS.

Our report will be on our extended trip. We spent

3 wonderful days travelling through Glen Innes,

Tenderfield, Guyra, spending our first night in

Armidale which was cold but beautiful with au-

tumn leaves trees lining the streets. Day 2 we

went via ―The Waterfall way‘ and as sugested

saw 3 beautiful falls on our way to Dorrigo. Our

second night was spent at Coffs Harbour before

travelling to Woolgoolga, Grafton, Maclean and

home. The driver was terrific. The company was

good with many stories and good laughs. The

photo of our ‗Single Girls‘ and friends was taken

at Ebor Falls.

WELCOME TO OUR NEW RESIDENTS. The new owner of 277 is MARIA GOULDING.

Maria came from Bilambil Heights to join us, being a member of the Gardening Club, she is

looking forward to continuing that hobby. Cooking and her grandchildren are also very high on

her list. After Maria gets settled in she will be joining in functions and activities in the village.

JUDY McGREGOR house 81 becoming her new home. Judy was a New Zealander before

spending a few years in England before moving into the village. Another lady keen on her cook-

ing with craft is another big interest. JEANETTE JORDAN at 84 has settled into her new

home, Jeanette came from Tugun, she has already attended some functions since her move, many

of our activities interest Jeanette. Her grand children are an important part of her life as well.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Hannah Tregaskes. On the 16th May Hannah made

the milestone to celebrate her 80th birthday. You will see Hannah at the happy

hours with her table full of friends enjoying themselves. Hannah has been in the

village 10 years. At one time Hannah was organizing the bus trips before hand-

ing that over to Shirley. From all your friends Hannah, Happy Birthday.

A little boy opened the big family bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the

old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked

at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.

―Mama, look what I found,‖ the boy called out. ―What have you got there, dear?‖

With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, ―I think it's Adam's under-

wear.‖

„GARDENING IN THE VILLAGE WITH ROSS‟

All of those spare pieces of garden can have Marigolds or Petunias seedlings planted into them.

Petunias come in so many different types and all make a good display, or pansies make a great

THE SENILITY PRAYER. Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway,

the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eye-sight to tell the difference.

MARGARET SPARKES house 72, on May 8th.

Margaret had been in the village for 8 years.

Thank you to all her kind neighbours for their help and kind thoughts at this very sad time.

ELAINE DOUGLAS house 303, on May 27th

Elaine was a very early resident in the village, she had been here for 16

years

We pass on our sorrow to her family for their loss.

VILLAGE WAKES. We have a committee who take care of the wakes when they are required.

They are lead by Barbara Grisdale house 75. Ph.5599 7556. If you at any time need this service

all you need to do is contact Barbara and she will help you. All wakes take precedents over any

other activity happening in that hall on that day. Those involved are Mary Turnball (283).

an ordinary cup > line it with Glad Wrap, leaving a good overhang > spray the wrap > break an

egg into the cup > gather up the wrap and twist it tightly to expel as much air as possible from

your little bag > plop into a pan of simmering water until cooked to your liking. It is easy to see

WHAT A GREAT CONCERT

If you missed the concert by „I LOVE TO DANCE SCHOOL‟ with a cast of around 60 great

little performers aged between 3 and 17, you missed a terrific afternoon of entertainment on Sun-

day 31st May. All accolades go to the children for their marvelous performances. Coming to

the village to entertain gives them the confidence to work before a live audience. Thank you to

all who supported them. . This concert being a major event for Camp Quality, raised approxi-

mately $400 There will be a DVD available cost $5. A form will be on the Social Club Notice

board please add your name if you would like a DVD, these proceeds also going to Camp Qual-

ity. There will be no spare DVDS made, it is important to add your request to the list.

An out-of-towner accidentally drives his car into a deep ditch on the side of a country road.

Luckily a farmer happened by with his big old horse named Benny. The man asked for help. The

farmer aid Benny could pull his car out. He backed Benny up and hitched Benny to the man‘s car

bumper. Then he yelled, ― Pull, Nellie, pull.‖ Benny didn‘t move. Then he yelled ― Come on,

pull Ranger.‖ Still, Benny didn‘t move. He then yelled really loud. ―Now pull, Fred, pull hard.‖

Benny just stood. Then the farmer nonchalantly said, ―OK, Benny, pull.‖ Benny pulled the car

out of the ditch. The man was very appreciative but curious. He asked the farmer why he called

his horse by the wrong name three times. The farmer said, ―Oh, Benny I blind, and if he thought

he was the only one pulling he wouldn‘t even try.‖

MESSAGES FROM MANAGEMENT

Please do NOT feed the birds. They cause problems with their mess at other residents homes.

SPEEDING.. This is an on going problem, there has been a reduction in people speeding but we

ask all drivers to be aware of the danger speeding in the village. We have many residents who

for one reason or another are not able to move quickly, to be avoided.
