Learning and Work Trip
to Saint Louis
From July 14 –20 a group of adults and
youth from Two Rivers Church will be traveling
to the Kingdom House in Saint Louis, where
they will be a part of the Immersive Service
Learning program. Kingdom House is a social
service agency with United Methodist roots in
south Saint Louis.
The mission of Kingdom House is transfor-
mation…from the inside out. “Through holistic
programs and services, we promote empower-
ment and growth in individuals and families.
We help the economically disadvantaged
achieve economic independence, self-sufficiency
and a path out of poverty.”
The Urban Forum at Kingdom House pro-
vides professional guidance in social justice ed-
ucation through immersive service learning.
The week will be a mix of hands-on service and
learning. The group will put together a mission
of social service to take back to Rock Island. Af-
ter the trip, the group will implement a plan for
personal and social action and learning in their
home communities. It is this continuing work
that will change our communities.
Cool Beanz Truck at
Two Rivers on July 22
Annette Hutto, the owner of Cool Beanz
Coffeehouse in Rock Island is bringing the Cool Beanz
Food and Coffee Truck to the parking lot of Two Rivers
Church on Monday, July 22 from 4-6 p.m. This is a
part of the Frozen Fundraiser series. Every month the
Cool Beanz Coffee Food and Coffee Truck finds a local
non-profit to support. The proceeds from the July 22
trip to Two Rivers will benefit the Saturday Meal Site.
Make an effort to stop by, support a local business and
support the Meal Site while enjoying a delicious coffee
drink or snack.
Beatles Sunday Returns
Members of “The Generations
Band,” will again join Two Rivers
for a special worship service on
July 21. As a way to have a little fun, all of the music
during the service will be classic Beatles songs.
All are encouraged to invite friends to this special
worship service. It promises to be a unique experi-
ence, full of fun, joy, and celebrating great music with
a message.

“We Care” Bags—Thanks So Much
Thanks to everyone who delivered “We Care” bags
to our shut-ins again this year. Our shut-in members
are all so appreciative of being remembered by our
church and look forward each June to receiving the
bags as well as catching up on recent news about their
church. Thanks also to those members who donated
money toward this project. Without your support we
could never pack the bags as full as we do. God Bless
you all for making our work easier by always being
willing to help out with the deliveries.

A new summer

from a project of the High School Youth Sunday
School class. If you would like to share a few
words about why a particular verse of the Bible is
important to you, please contact Pastor Robb.

Dear Creators’ Camp,
Thank you so very much
for thinking of the Meal-Site

Many Thanks,
David and Ellen Martin

DVD available of Concert
The Concert to
Honor Judith Lither-
land was a beautiful
afternoon of music
and tributes. There
were artists ranging
from the world-
renowned organist
and former student of
Judy’s, Eric Plutz, to young students playing “Mary
Had a Little Lamb.” The music included Edgar Crock-
ett and David Holcomb’s jazz duo, the Two Rivers
Sanctuary Choir, the bell choir, soloist Mark Swes-
singer, and a string quintent. The whole program is
available now on the church facebook page at Face-
book.com/RITwoRivers. It was also recorded from a
camera in the balcony and will be available on DVD.
Call the church office if you would like a copy.

Two Rivers Church Annual Summer
Picnic & Creators’ Camp Fair
Saturday June 15, 2019 was a rainy morning. It
was the day of Two Rivers Church annual picnic at
Camp Milan. By the afternoon the skies had
cleared and the sun was shining. It was a perfect
day for a picnic.
Members of the Evangelism Team and others
were there early getting Camp Milan ready for the
picnic. By 6:00 pm church members and Creators’
Camp parents and kids were arriving. Pastor Robb
McCoy and Harold Truitt were busy fixing the ham-
burgers and hotdogs on the grills. Church members
and Camp parents had brought some of the most
delicious food. Pastor Robb McCoy had given grace
and the delicious food was so enjoyed under the pa-
vilion.
As in all good old summer time picnics, there
were many games. The kids enjoyed the basketball
court, the swings, walking on the tin cans, the vol-
leyball court, and the whiffle ball. It was a joy to see the many kids and parents enjoying themselves there at
Camp Milan.
The Creators’ Camp kids had a wonderful display in the Retreat Center of the many items they had made
during the week. This was much enjoyed by all.
With the evening being packed with so many fun activities, it worked up an appetite. They gathered
around the fire pit to roast marshmallows and enjoy those delicious s’mores. It was a very pleasant evening
sitting around the fire pit on the benches enjoying conversation.
As the evening went on, everyone returned to the Retreat Center to hear the ukulele group and their won-
derful music. As they were through performing, Pastor Robb McCoy announced there was a bad storm com-
ing and that the movie would not be able to be shown.
It was an evening to remember there at our beautiful Camp Milan, by the 70 people who had come. We
want to thank the Evangelism Team and the Creators’ Camp for the effort they put forth.
2019 Annual Conference Report
As your Lay Member of Annual Conference, it is my duty to report to the congregation afterwards. This
year the IGRC 2019 Annual Conference was held June 6, 7, and 8 in Peoria.
The major event of this year’s conference was the election of delegates for the 2020 General Confer-
ence. The clergy and lay members meet separately to elect our delegates. Laity elects 13 delegates: five for
General Conference, five for Jurisdictional Conference, and three alternates as the first two elected for Juris-
dictional Conference are also considered alternates for General Conference. In years past we may have had
perhaps twenty candidates to choose from. This year we had forty-three.
Pastor Robb attended the IGRC for Unity meeting on Wednesday night for a candidates’ forum. A slate of
17 lay delegates was compiled and given to the interested voting members via text messages and emails.
The Wesley Covenant Association also had their chosen candidates and attempted to pass out flyers to all
lay members on the floor, some of whom didn’t even know they were expected to vote for delegates, nor the
Wesley Covenant’s agenda. Bishop Keaton, who was the presiding officer of the lay session instructed any-
one who had received one of the flyers to throw it away. “We won’t be having any to that here,” he told
us. The laity was able to elect our delegates in the allotted three hours. Ten of the Unity candidates were
elected, one of the Wesley Covenant candidates, Clarke Barnes (who formerly attended Rock Island First
from 1973 to 1980), was elected and the other two were not affiliated with either group. The clergy had to
come back in the evening to finish their voting.
The general activities of Annual Conference, accepting reports, recognizing retirees, recognizing ordi-
nands, and approving the IGRC annual budget, were accomplished in good time. We were ahead of schedule
most of the conference. No contentious legislative items were introduced. Relatively few legislative items
were offered this year. One motion from the floor to cut the budget by 25% was voted down by about a 10 to
1 majority.
Bishop Beard preached during the service of Ordination on Acts 2:1-2. He exhorted us to move the church
forward with prayer, purpose, and passion with the transforming power of the Holy Spirit just as the disci-
ples did on Pentecost.
We were reminding again of the large number of persons in Illinois who identify themselves as Christians,
but have no church they attend regularly, and that a large percentage of those identify as Methodist, so the
fields are ripe for harvest for new members.
On a side note, I saw and spoke with Emily who attend Two Rivers for a short time last fall when she was
enrolled as a student at St. Ambrose. She left before the end of the semester and has moved back home. She
wanted to thank everyone for the kindness and welcome she received here.
