R E P O R T E D L Y I N O P E R A T I O N . . . CYPRUS. The BBC E a s t Mediterranean Relay on Cyprus was recently logged and definitely identified in Europe on a previously unrepor ted channel of 1232 kHz. Noted under Tangier a t 2300 GMT one night and in the c l ea r a t 2100 another; in Arabic. Any m o r e information available? (Arct ic)

TRUCIAL AMIRATE O F SHARJA. Regarding our recent query for fur ther information on the exact location of this station which operates on 737 and 1250 kHz and gives a n addres s in Dubai, Don Jensen sends along the following information taken f r o m a r ecen t le t ter f r o m the engineer in charge. The station, Saut a s Sahil, the Voice of the Coast, i s opera ted by the Br i t i sh Government and was s tar ted to provide a local information service a t a t ime when the re was no local radio in the Truc ia l States. The MW outlets a r e 10 kw Marconi t r ansmi t t e r s operating in para l le l and , while the t r ansmi t t e r i s located in Abu Dhabi (coordinates25.21. 30N, 55. 23E), the administrative offices and mailing a d d r e s s a r e in Dhubai about 22 mi l e s away. La te r th is yea r the present t r ansmi t t e r s will be moved to Dubai, however, and a new 50 kw Continental MW t ransmi t t e r will be added. So much for the great SharjaIDubai mys te ry . . . KENYA. The Voice of Kenya i s current ly hea rd in Sweden testing on 953 with what appea r s to be a new t ransmit ter . Not too much hope for North Amer ica , though, since these Kenya outlets usually a r e directional N- S. (Arc t i c )
