In this class you will learn how to thread the machine, wind a bobbin, sew simple stitches, and basic machine maintenance. We will discuss different fabrics, their uses, how they’re sold, and how and where to buy them. Learn how to lay out and adjust patterns. Test fabric will be provided to start you off, and by the last two sessions we will complete an apron and a reusable shopping bag. Please bring your own sewing machine to class. Fee: $100 DRAWING FOR BEGINNER AND INTERMEDIATE LEVELS This is a foundation course, touching on such primary topics as perspective, drawing aids, composition, and value. Fee: $175 ACRYLIC PAINTING This course deals with the fundamentals of painting in acrylic, focusing on its technical and aesthetic matters. Topics covered will include: materials, composition, color, starting, and developing of the painting. A supply list will be provided prior to the start of class. Material Expenses: $50 approx. Fee: $175 WATERCOLOR PAINTING Students will learn to use various types of watercolor techniques, and supplies.We will be using wet on wet techniques, wet on dry, learn to layer colors, painting landscapes, still life, people, etc. Students are free to paint any subject they like. Starts June 1 Fee: $175 WATERCOLOR/GOUACHE PAINTING Students will learn to use various types of watercolor techniques, and supplies. We will be using wet on wet techniques, wet on dry, learn to layer colors, as well as how to use GOUACHE the only type of watercolor that has the advantage of using opaque coverage. This will give students the ability to use watercolor in transparent, translucent or opaque techniques. Students are free to paint any subject they like. A supply list will be provided prior to the start of class. Material Expenses: $50 approx. Beth Drucker CE9 689 C1: Saturday, 12:30pm-3:30pm for 4 sessions. Starts June 1 Fee: $175 MIXED MEDIA WORKSHOP This workshop is for students who wish to work in “Mixed Media”. Mixed Media, also known as “collage”, means using different types of paint, textiles, interesting papers etc. to achieve a piece of art. Feel free to use any medium you like! You need to bring to class a board or canvas in whatever size you want to work, a sketch or sample of the image you wish to create, a hard straight edge (plastic) to smooth out the papers, acrylics (if you wish to use paint), various papers that you wish to work with, “Mod Podge” glue, and finishing medium. Working at your own pace, and under the instruction of a professional musician and music educator, you will learn such skills as reading music, basic chords, fingerpicking, and simple blues techniques. Thomas Rizzuto CE9 493 C1: Tuesday, 7:00pm-8:30pm. Starts June 4 for 10 sessions. Fee: $175 WRITERS WRITE! This workshop is for those with the desire to put pen to paper! Together we will spark your literary talents and inclinations to discover who you are as a writer. Whether you have never written a thing in your life or need a push to start that novel, this course will be beneficial. Besides having an amazing time, there's only one guarantee: you're going to write (because that's what writers do)! Gregory Cioffi CE9 692 C1: Monday, 6:30pm-8:00pm. Starts June 3 for 6 sessions. Fee: $135 EXPLORE THE WORLD OF ACTING Students will learn the basics of acting using sensory work, improvisation, relaxation exercises, and scene work. Students will be assigned a scene with a partner. After rehearsing, they will present it as a “Staged Reading” with movement, props, and costumes. No memorization is required, just a love of theater. Gregory Cioffi CE9 617 C1: Monday, 8:00pm-10:00pm. Starts June 3 for 6 sessions. Fee: $175 ADVANCED ACTING Previous acting classes CE9617 recommended. Together we will delve deeper into scene work and monologues to uncover the artistic fruits of extensive effort while utilizing the foundational methods taught in the previous class. Students will be treated as acting professionals. Memorization required. Non-Credit Refund Policy: Tuition is refundable when a course is canceled by the College. Tuition is refundable to the student whose written request for withdrawal has been received by the Office of Workforce Development & Continuing Education prior to the beginning of the class.
