The Fluid Eval PVT system is designed to study phase behavior of hydrocarbon fluids

at reservoir conditions of pressure and temperature. It can be used to perform PVT tests

FULLY VISUAL PVT SYSTEM (VISUAL FLUID EVAL)

The fully visual Fluid Eval PVT system is designed to study phase behavior of reservoir

fluids at reservoir conditions of pressure and temperature. The PVT cell is based on a

window through cell offering full sample visibility. It is particularly interesting when

visual observation of the fluid must be accomplished such as swelling tests, volatile oil

studies, gas condensates, etc. The system uses an embedded high pressure pump to

control the pressure and volume of the reservoir fluid in the cell. A motorized rocking

system permits to rock the cell for faster recombination and also put the cell in the

correct position before the fluid volume measurement takes place. A video camera

system records in real time the fluid phases while video tools enable the end-user

to retrieve the volume of each phase versus pressure and temperature. A magnetic

coupled stirrer mounted inside the sample chamber provides efficient fluid mixing and

ensures fast equilibrium of sample phases. Homogeneous sample heating is provided by

heating cartridges inserted in the cell body.

FIELD PVT SYSTEM (MOBILE FLUID EVAL)

The mobile Fluid Eval PVT system is designed to perform PVT tests on reservoir

fluids at the field location or in the laboratory. The system uses an embedded high

pressure pump to control the pressure and volume of the reservoir fluid in the cell.

The unit can be configured for either oil or gas condensates studies by inverting the

position of the cell. A video camera system automatically determines the gas/liquid

interface and measures the volume of retrograde condensate during gas condensate

studies. A magnetic coupled stirrer mounted inside the sample chamber provides

efficient fluid mixing and ensures fast equilibrium of sample phases. Sample heating is

provided by an heating jacket wrapped around the cell.

EDUCATIONAL PVT CELL (EDUCATIONAL FLUID EVAL)

The educational Fluid Eval instrument is a compact PVT cell designed for the study of

PVT, thermodynamic properties and phase behaviour of black oil and gas condensate

samples requiring a small volume of fluid sample. The PVT cell is composed of an

efficient fluid mixer mounted on the piston, a dedicated visual head, two sampling

valves, an accurate pressure transducer and an electric heater for homogeneous

temperature control . A digital camera system permits observation of the liquid/gas

interface through the sapphire windows. During differential vaporization and flash test,

the removal of the gas phase is facilitated by the full visibility of the gas/oil interface

through the window of the cell. The unit can be configured for either oil or gas

condensates studies by inverting the position of the cell.

BUBBLEPOINT PRESURE APPARATUS (BPP 70)

Surface liquid samples are validated in the PVT lab by measuring the sample’s bubblepoint

pressure in particular. One of the most important quality checks performed on such samples

consists in verifying that the measured bubblepoint pressure matches the pressure of the

separator recorded during the sampling operations. The BPP 70 apparatus has been designed to

measure the bubblepoint pressure of separator oil at separator temperature. A flash liberation

test is performed on the homogenised sample to determine the bubblepoint pressure by

analysing the recorded pressure-volume response at separator temperature. The apparatus can

also be configured with three sample cells.

MANUAL GASOMETER (MG SERIES)

The manual gasometer is designed to measure gas volumes at ambient conditions of pressure

and temperature. The gas enters the calibrated cylinder and raises the floating piston upwards,

thus incrementing the volume space in the cylinder. A hand operated crank allows for the

operator to adjust the position of the piston at the desired pressure and volume. The volume,

temperature and pressure of the gas are continuously monitored and displayed. The gasometer is

provided with inlet and outlet valves.

The automated gasometer is designed to measure gas volumes at ambient temperature and

atmospheric pressure. The gasometer is made of a calibrated stainless steel chamber equipped

with a motor driven piston. The gas enters the chamber at constant pressure or at constant flow

rate. The volume, temperature and pressure of the gas are continuously monitored and

LIQUID CONDENSATION TRAP

Designed to trap heavy compounds which might be produced during the liberation of the gas phase

from the reservoir to the atmospheric conditions. The cooling trap is installed between the PVT cell

and the gasometer. It consists of a cooling unit based on Peltier effect and a pyrex trap cylinder of 10

cc capacity. The temperature can reach up to -10°C. The composition of the trapped condensates can

be analysed by gas chromatography.

GOR SAMPLE PYCNOMETER

This U-tube pycnometer is used for determining the GOR of a live oil. It is based on a flow

through vessel equipped with two needle valves and a burst disc. It is provided with a tare

weight and calibrated volume. A predefined volume of lived oil sample is transferred into the

MULTI STAGE SEPARATOR APPARATUS

This equipment is designed to simulate a full-scale field separation unit. It is used to determine

the optimum conditions of separation by calculating the changes in formation volume factor and

gas-oil ratios with changes in separator pressure and temperature. A reservoir fluid sample is

ROLLING BALL VISCOMETER (RBV 1000)

The rolling ball viscometer is designed to determine the viscosity of bottom-hole and surface oil

samples at elevated temperature and pressure. It uses the rolling ball principle where the roll

time of a piston is used to obtain viscosity data. Viscosity values are then obtained by

correlation of the measured data with curves of fluids with known viscosities. The RBV 1000

consists of a calibrating barrel equipped with a latch at its upper end and an laser detector at its

The HP HT density cell handles reservoir fluids at pressures up to 10 Kpsi and temperatures

SOLID DETECTION SYSTEM (SDS)

This device is designed to detect when the organic deposition takes place, in other words it

measures the onset conditions of live oil precipitation. The instrument is based on the

transmittance of a low intensity laser light through fiber optic transmission probes mounted

across a windowed cell. The instrument is composed of a laser windowed cell to connect the

high temperature optical fibers used to emit and receive the laser signal through the oil sample.,

an optic source to generate the signal crossing the fluid, a power meter to measure the

attenuated signal, two fiber optic transmission probes and a data acquisition software used to

record the system pressure, temperature, solvent flow rate and the power of the transmitted

light. The SDS can be used with different Vinci instruments such as Fluid Eval, Flass, FT700,..

FLOCCULATION TITRIMETER (FT SERIES)

The FT series is designed to determine accurately the precipitation conditions of asphaltenes

and crystallisation conditions of waxes in very dark, undiluted crudes and oil products at high

pressure and high temperature. It is composed of a HP – HT stirred sample vessel combined to a

special optical probe which measures the transmittance of a low intensity laser light in the

sample. When asphaltene precipitation or wax crystallisation occurs, the transmittance of the

signal passing through the sample decreases sharply and it allows for determining the asphaltene

onset or the WAT in case of waxy oil.

AUTOMATED HEITHAUS FLOCCULATION TITRIMETER

(FT-A)

The computer-operated FT-A instrument is a stability diagnostic tool for quantifying the three

Heithaus compatibility parameters that estimate the colloidal stability of asphalts and asphalt

cross blends, aged asphalt, pyrolyzed asphalt, and heavy oil residuum. It is based on the ASTM

D6703 test method for automated Heithaus titrimetry. The samples of asphalt or heavy oil or

residuum are dissolved in toluene and titrated with iso-octane or n-heptane at controlled

temperatures to determine the point of flocculation and calculate the Heithaus compatibility

parameters.Compatibility influences important physical properties of these materials as well as

the formation of coke which causes fouling in refining processes.

ORGANIC SOLID FILTER (OSD 1000)

The organic solid filter is connected to the PVT cell and is used to determine the amount of

solids formed in the fluid sample when altering the pressure, temperature or composition of the

fluid. The instrument uses a filtration method to isolate and remove the solids from the fluid for

qualitative and quantitative analysis. Typically, the fluid sample is mixed with a solvent or

equilibrated at temperature or pressure sufficient to induce solid precipitation. The solids are

then isolated at temperature and pressure and brought to ambient conditions. The total mass of

precipitated solid is then measured. The solids are also analysed to obtain the property and

compositional information. The device is composed of a high pressure, high temperature

stainless steel filter holder using filter disc to retain the solid particles. The fluid sample is

transferred from the PVT cell to the floating piston accumulator through the filter at controlled

pressure and flow rate. Different ranges of filter size are given along with the filter.

The asphalteval is a lab-scale circulating flow loop which is designed to measure asphaltene

deposition under realistic turbulent flowing conditions of production and transportation. Solid

deposits are measured using a solid detection system based on light scattering. Optional high

The Wax Eval A has been designed to examine the effects of wax and paraffin precipitation

and deposition in pipelines in a laboratory flow loop using stock tank oil sample. The apparatus

provides fast, accurate and reliable results for research of inhibiting and dissolving agents or

quality control. The oil sample which can be untreated or treated with a wax inhibitor is

circulating in the loop using an injection pump and is pre-heated to a set temperature while the

The Wax-Eval SS200 is a small sized wax deposition loop that exposes live oil to a range of

heat fluxes and shear rates that would be expected in the flow line during actual production. It

allows for determining the wax appearance temperature WAT and the wax deposition rate. The

WAT defines the temperature below which viscosity increases and wax deposit. The wax

deposition rate defines the amount of wax which deposit on the wall versus time. The loop

involves four main steps, namely, the charging of the live oil, the thermal pretreatment of the

oil, the cooling and the ungelling. An optional restart test loop can be added to the system in

order to measure the gel strength or yield stress which is used for estimating the start up

pressure requirement for gelled oil in a shutdown pipeline. Experimental data obtained with the

Wax Eval are entered into a simulation software to get a representative model of the oil sample

which can be used for real pipeline application.

MULTI-PLACE COLD FINGER (MFC 6)

The cold finger apparatus uses a rapid screening method to identify and rank potential wax

deposition inhibitors. The quantity of paraffin wax adhering to the cooled surface is quantified.

The efficiency of scale inhibitors can be assessed. The MCF 6 apparatus is designed to be used

with black oil samples held in six glass bottles. Those are maintained at constant temperature

during the tests in a thermal controlled bath. The fingers immersed in the oil samples are then

cooled to a predefined minimum temperature via coolant supplied by an external chiller bath to

induce a temperature gradient in the sample. The samples are then run for 24 hours with

periodic weight measurement of the finger to determine potential for deposition. After the

experiment, deposited wax is collected and composition can be further analyzed. Deposited wax

is removed by heating the finger and washed with solvent.

FLOOR STAND STIRRED PRESSURE VESSEL (FSV SERIES)

The FSV series vessel is specifically designed to stir large volume of fluid under pressure and

temperature. The vessel consists of a cylindrical metal chamber equipped with a bolted sealed

head and a manual bottom drain valve. It features an internal heavy duty stirring system, made

of a motor drive magnetically coupled to an internal stirrer shaft with attached anchor for

stirring viscous liquids. The head is provided with one hand operated valve, a thermocouple for

measuring the temperature within the vessel, a pressure gauge and a safety burst disc. A control

panel controls the motor speed drive for stirrer. Temperature and pressure transducers can be

interfaced to the panel if there are needed. The unit can also be interfaced to a computer for

remote control. The complete vessel is mounted on an easily moveable trolley with an optional

GAS HYDRATES AUTOCLAVE SYSTEM (GHA SERIES)

The GHA series is a mercury free cell designed to (1) study gas hydrate formation and

dissociations, (2) measure the induction time for formation of hydrates by monitoring the

pressure drop as a function of time during hydrate formation and (3) take video pictures during

the experiments. The system consists of a constant volume hydrate cell with a 250 cc volume

and pressure rating up to 3,000 psi. The cell temperature is controlled by a thermostatic bath. A

HYDRATES KINETICS STUDIES SYSTEM (KINETIC-EVAL)

The kinetic-Eval analyser is used for studying the kinetics of gas hydrate formation by

measuring the induction time for formation of hydrates and measuring the hydrate growth rate

that occurs after nuclei are formed. It is also used for determining the hydrates composition and

evaluating kinetic hydrate inhibitors and other inhibitors such as anti agglomerant, emulsion,

natural inhibitors, salts. The system consists of a constant volume hydrate cell with a 250 cc

volume and pressure rating up to 5,000 psi. The cell temperature is controlled by circulating

coolant inside a constant temperature bath. A thermocouple measures the temperature of the cell

with an accuracy of 0.1°C. The cell pressure is monitored by a pressure transducer. A magnetic

stirrer with adjustable rotation speed is used to agitate the test fluids. The torque required to

drive the stirrer at a constant speed is measured and related to the viscosity of the system.

The bench top visual Fluid-Eval is mainly designed for the study of thermodynamic properties and

phase behaviour of multiphase sample such as black oil samples, gas condensates, gas hydrates and

DYNAMIC SCALE LOOP (SCALEVAL)

The Scaleval apparatus is designed to study the precipitation and deposition of scale at reservoir

and pipeline conditions of pressure and temperature. It is used to evaluate the efficiency of

chemical inhibitors to prevent the formation of mineral scales such as calcium carbonate,

calcium barium and barium sulfates. It allows to determine the minimum inhibitor concentration

(MIC) required to prevent the deposition of scale and to perform comparative tests with

different inhibitors in the same conditions. The system uses the principle of the tube blocking

test which is an industry practice, to evaluate the minimum inhibitor concentration (i.e. MIC) in

dynamic flow conditions at required temperature. Inhibitor efficiency is measured by the ratio

of the time needed to block the tube in the presence of inhibitor divided by the time needed to

block the tube without inhibitor.

The automated PCT 1300 instrument is designed to measure the crystallization temperature of a

pressurized brine fluid under conditions involving a combination of high pressure and low temperature. It

FRICTION FLOW LOOP FOR EVALUATING DRAG REDUCING

AGENTS (DRA FLOW LOOP)

The DRA flow loop enables the end user to test, quantify and evaluate the performance of a

friction reducer by measuring frictional pressure loss of a fluid flowing in a pipe in turbulent

flow. The effect of friction reducers on both flow rate and pressure are analyzed and reported.

The apparatus provides fast, accurate and reliable results for research of friction reducers. The

system circulates test fluid through two test sections of various diameters to generate differential

pressure versus flow rate data. The test fluid injection system comprises a mixing tank to fully

mix additives into the test fluid and a low-shear pump for injection of test fluids with the flow

rate controlled by a Coriolis flow meter. High-accuracy differential pressure transducers are

provided for each tubing diameter for multiple data readings per test. Additives can be injected

into the flow stream via a metering pump or added directly into the mixing tank. Differential

HIGH PRESSURE RHEOMETER (RHEO 1000)

The RHEO 1000 is a computer-controlled rotational rheometer based on Taylor-Couette flow,

which is specifically designed to measure the rheology properties of a live oil sample at various

conditions of pressure, temperature, chemical composition and shear rate. It can simultaneously

mimic the deposition process of wax/asphaltene according to real production shear conditions

while measuring the rheological properties of the sample. The instrument provides fruitful

information when used with petroleum fluids containing either solid waxes or asphatene

particles. Those fluids deviate from Newtonian to non-Newtonian behaviour as soon solid

particles precipitate in the fluid. Such precipitation has a tremendous impact of the rheological

BOTTOM HOLE SAMPLER

The bottom hole sampler is to be used with slick wire line for trapping representative sub-

surface oil and gas samples at reservoir conditions for PVT analysis. It is designed to recover

reservoir samples from the well. The tool consists of an air chamber, a reservoir oil chamber, a

mechanical operated clock system, a triggering system, a hanging head and a closing

mechanism. The system comes complete with the sampling tool, the transportation box and the

service kit.

The sampler has to be put in the reservoir. When the clock mechanism is reaching zero, the

reservoir fluid enters slowly in the oil chamber by displacing hydraulic oil. The filling is slow

enough in order not to flash the sample. Once the chamber is completely filled up with the oil

sample, the sample chamber is sealed automatically. The sampler can be pulled out from the

well to the surface. The oil sample can be conveniently transferred from the sampler into the

shipping bottle using the mobile transfer bench.

SINGLE PHASE SAMPLE CYLINDER (SPS SERIES) The single-phase sample bottle is designed for monophasic PVT sample transportation, keeping

the sample at reservoir pressure or above, all the way to the laboratory. The cylinder uses a

pressure compensation end cap and a large mass profiled agitation ring to agitate the sample

during bubble point determination. All bottles are furnished with a single inlet needle valve for

driving fluid, a single inlet needle valve for the nitrogen gas cap and a double inlet needle valve

for sample fluid. On the sample side, there is also incorporated an evacuation port nipple and

plug. Valves installed at either end of the bottle are protected by valve guards from damage

during handling. A carrying case is also available for transportation purposes.

LOW PRESSURE PISTON SAMPLE CYLINDER

(LPP SERIES) The LPP series sample cylinder is a double end piston type cylinder for storage and

transportation of the surface fluid to the laboratory. The sample fluid is isolated from the

secondary driving fluid with a floating piston especially designed to minimize friction and

reduce pressure load. The bottle is equipped with an external magnetic volume tracker. The inlet

and pre charge valves are provided with safety burst discs and pressure indication gauges. The

piston accommodates a mixing ball with a minimum of dead volume. A carrying case is also

available for transportation purposes.

MIXER CYLINDER (MC SERIES)

The MC series are double end piston type cylinders designed to store and mix any kind of fluids

at pressure and temperature. The sample fluid is isolated from the secondary driving fluid with a

floating piston and a magnetic mixer is located in the mixing sample chamber for proper

agitation. The mixer is magnetically coupled to a drive system through the accumulator end cap

which incorporates a permanent magnet driven by a direct current motor with variable speed. A

mixer controller permits to stop, start and control the speed of the mixer. The cylinder can be

operated in either upright or inverted orientation. Both end caps are provided with an inlet/outlet

port for fluid introduction or fluid sampling.

RECOMBINATION CELL APPARATUS (RCA 1000)

The RCA 1000 instrument is based on a high pressure, high temperature recombination cell in

which oil and gas solutions are injected at pre-defined volume, stirred together, heated at a

desired temperature and pressurized at pressure above the saturation pressure for few hours to

give a homogeneous mixture of the reservoir fluid. The instrument comes with a recombination

MOBILE RECOMBINATION AND RESTORATION APPARATUS

(MRR 1000)

This apparatus is especially designed to physically recombine gas and liquid samples in

reservoir conditions of pressure and temperature. The apparatus comes with a recombination

cell jacketed in an insulated heating mantel for temperature control, a motorized rocking system,

SOLVENT CLEANER

The solvent cleaner is a mobile device designed for cleaning high pressure dirty cells. The

principle consists of filling the 20 litres reservoir of the device with half of the solvent and the

remaining with compressed air. The device comes with two valves. One valve is used for filling

Calibration

DEADWEIGHT GAUGE

Primary pressure standard designed for high pressure calibration applications. The device

consists of a vertically mounted precision lapped piston and cylinder assembly. Accurately

calibrated masses are loaded onto the piston, which rises freely within its cylinder. These

weights balance the upward force created by the application of pressure within the system.

Delivered with a carrying case.
