Gloria
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of Good
will.
We praise you, we bless you, we adore, we glorify you, we give you
thanks for your great glory. Lord God, heavenly King, O God,
almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God,
Son of the Father. You take away the sins of the world, have mercy
on us; you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer; you
are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone
are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of
God the Father. Amen.
Profession of Faith
I believe in one God, the Father Almighty maker of heaven and
earth, and of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from
Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial
with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men
and for our salvation he came down from hesaven, and by the Holy
Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered
death and was buried, and rose again on the third day.
In accordance with the Scriptures He ascended into heaven and is
seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead and His kingdom will have no
end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is
adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one
Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the
resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Sunday
During This Stressful Time we have
had to adopt new guidelines for the
Sacrament of Reconciliation. For the
time being we can only do confessions by
appointment. If you want to make an
appointment, please call the Parish Office
and the secretary will ask you a few
questions and get your first name and
your telephone number. The secretary
will then contact Fr. Paul and he will call
you direct either to set up an
appointment or just talk to you on the
phone. We don’t like this situation any
better than you do—but we have to be safe
AND we want YOU to be safe as well.
“...shelter us under the mantle of your
protection, keep us in the embrace of your
arms, help us always to know the love of your
Son, Jesus. Amen.”

Communion Song: Gift of Finest Wheat
R. You satisfy the hungry heart with gift of finest wheat; come give
to us, O saving Lord, the bread of life to eat.
1. As when the shepherd calls his sheep, they know and heed his
voice; So when you call your fam’ly, Lord, we follow and rejoice. R.
2. With joyful lips we sing to you our praise and gratitude, that you
should count us worthy, Lord, to share this heav’nly food. R.
3. Is not the cup we bless and share the blood of Christ outpoured?
Do not one cup, one loafs, declare our oneness in the Lord? R.
4. The myst’ry of your presence, Lord, no mortal tongue can tell:
whom all the world cannot contain comes in our hearts to dwell. R
5. You give yourself to us, O Lord; then selfless let us be, to serve
each other in your name in truth and charity. R

The Power of Song
Coming out of the eighties, my older and wiser brothers and sisters
will say I grew up in an age of horrible music: big hair bands,
meaningless lyrics, and punishing cords. No matter the overall
judgement, there is something about the songs that capture your
heart when you are a teenager: they give hope; they name your pain,
they unite us. I still remember standing on top of a table singing
“Piano Man” by Billy Joel with about 100 of my “closest friends.”
We come out of an ancient tradition that recognizes and supports
the power of the song. Songs, often called psalms or canticles, are all
over the Old and New Testaments. They unite the head and the
heart in faith, hope, love, and joy.
In our reading today from Jeremiah, he reflects on the power of
song and he calls us to sing with all our heart. He says, “Sing to the
Lord, praise the Lord, for he has rescued the life of the poor from the
power of the evildoers!”
I would encourage you to read the entire 20th chapter of Jeremiah,
it is his famous confession. He lived through a terrible time in
Israel’s history and he was called to be a prophet, a prophet
unwelcomed by everyone. In this chapter, the opening line of
Jeremiah’s prayer is startling: “You seduced me, LORD, and I let
myself be seduced; you were too strong for me, and you prevailed.
All day long I am an object of laughter; everyone mocks me (20.7).
In the midst of Jeremiah’s difficult prayer, we have this interjection
of “Sing to the Lord.” A song connects the head and the heart in a
way that sustains us. Throughout the book of Jeremiah, we have
examples of him turning his life into a song that sustained him
through the toughest of times.
What song sustains you? Is there a song that can sustain us
together during this time?
While several songs come to mind, I would like to propose one as
St. Columbkille’s “communal song” as we figure out how to come
back together. It is a song by David Haas called “Send us your
Spirit.” Repeated twice, the refrain is “Come Lord Jesus. Send us
your Spirit. Renew the face of the earth.” We find that the words
speak well of our hope and, by increasing the tempo, it lifts the heart
as well. We hope to use this song each week as we gather for Mass.
We pray it may become a song that connects our heads and hearts to
God’s love that sustains us.
We hope you sing with all your heart. Please remember, it is not
about good voices versus bad ones; it is about participation rather
than performance. We must each give our voices so God can renew
ourselves and our world through them.
