Same Ten, Parlor Byron’s Bulletin This week, a close friend sent me a text message that simply read, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” Proverbs 16:9. I would be lying if I said it didn’t get my attention at 6:45 in the morning! I thought about it constantly throughout the morning and most of the day. I kept thinking, What does this mean to me? How can I apply it to my life? What steps am I taking, or rather, what are the steps that God is establishing in my life? These questions led me to an even bigger question- What does my heart look like? The Bible teaches us that God looks at the heart while we look mostly at the individual (1 Samuel 16:7). Many times, we try to establish the pathways that lead us to what we think we need most in this world, such as wealth, stature, status, power, etc. We allow these things to guide our “way” and ultimately control our hearts. God wants our hearts to be humble, reverent, loving, devoted, repentant, and obedient. If we allow our hearts to be filled with the attributes of God instead of our selfish, worldly desires, we will quickly see that the “established steps” lead us down the path to others in need. Food for thought: By what way are you planning your heart to take you? Byron “HEART FRIENDS” Women’s Accountability Groups Led by Pam Sellers. It’s that simple! Are you looking for more satisfaction in your own Christian Faith Walk? If so, there is no better way to gain that satisfaction than through the min- istry of serving others. Stephen Ministers are trained to do that to the very best of their God-given abilities. How about you; Would you consider serving our congregation as a Stephen Minister? By helping others, you help God’s Kingdom to grow, and in the process you will grow spiritually as well. For more information about Stephen Ministry, contact me John Drawhorn at 242-3435 today! Summer is almost here, and the food pantry NEEDS some vacation time help. We are hoping that some of you may have some altered schedules and will be willing to help full time or just as a needed substitute during the summer months. It is so important that we have some new summer volunteers so we never have to cancel any of our pantry sessions. If you are willing to help out, please contact Vicky Killen 633-1994 or Jennifer Woods 339-9388. Mother’s Day Offering As many of you are aware, the North Alabama Conference has a treasured gift in the Fair Haven Retirement/Assisted Living Facility. No resident of Fair Haven has ever been asked to leave because of an inability to pay care. How is that possible? Because of churches like St. Mark and others around the North Alabama Conference and beyond. Mother’s Day, May 8 th, is designated as Fountain of Love Offering Sunday for the benefit of our beloved Fair Haven. On this day can you / would you consider a gift in honor / or memory of a loved one to support this great ministry? Simply give a donation by envelope or by check and mark it: FAIR HAVEN. This will alert Samantha Mahloch of your special gift that will passed along to the Annual Conference. Thank you! I can’t thank the members of St. Mark enough for last Thursday night (Game Night with REACH students). The students had a great time as did I. Everything was wonderful from the homemade desserts to the bags and bags of donations. Thanks you!!! Shannon Hubbard, Program Coordinator Alabama REACH
