He suggests that all decision making is predicated upon two parts: an emotional side - the Elephant, and a rational side – its Rider. The Rider is rational and so can plan the path ahead. Under the Rider is the powerful Elephant that provides the energy for the journey. However, the Elephant is irrational and driven by emotion and instinct. What is driving your weight loss journey? The rider? The elephant? Consider the way you respond and be present and you write your reflection – tap into your inner motivation and consider how you are thinking about weight loss or maintenance. Appreciate all that you are and how you can use that to help yourself and others along the way. How do you feel?

Who isPsychologist Jonathan Haidt created a powerful analogy for thinking about behavioral change. He suggests that all decision making is predicated upon two parts: an emotional side - the Elephant, and a rational side – its Rider.
