Pre-revolution Norms or

Expectations of Iranian Society

By: Sergio Jerez

There were not being held back due to

religion beliefs. Religious judges and lawyers were

replaced with mostly educated ones. More power was given to education

instead of religion. The government was given a more

western look. Not basin laws on religion.

Religion/Government

Marriages had to be registered, the minimum

age for women to get married was set to be 15.

Women were allowed to have the right to divorce in their marriage.

Women were banned from wearing the chadur and were told to wear more western clothing.

Men could not take second wife without permission of the court.

Women were given some power over men.

Families

Girls were not required to wear the veil. Classes based on religion. Students were punished not letting them have

the experience of a child. Girls and boys were divided. Mothers could not attend school without a veil.
