ABSTRACT

Trade union is defined as a continuous association of workers or wage earn to the purpose of

maintaining or improving the conditions of their working lives. The researcher has introduced

the survey often effects of trade unionism on employee performance. The researcher has given

the background and literature review from different authors that will come in handy when

drawing conclusion and recommendations on whether involvement in trade union activities has

an effects on work performance. The researcher goes on to establish whether the effects of

unionism are positive or negative.

The researcher has come various studies of challenges facing trade unions, their roles, need to

join the unions and has also compared their interrelationship with job performance in the various

chapter. The researcher has also illustrated the research design that was be used, the population

of the study and the methods to be used to collect, analyze and interpret data

The findings revealed in the study evidently show that despite different views on trade unions by

the employees, they remain a vital organ in the organizations globally. They seek to prey to

employers from imposing arbitrary treatment to the union members by negotiating rules that

govern employment relationship.

As already established in the previous chapter, trade unions playa fundamental role of protecting

member's interests by protecting existing jobs, improving working conditions and advocating for

the best remuneration package the effects of trade union activities may have graved

consequences as far as economy is concerned in respect to its influence on employees' job

performance. Therefore it is important for employees, employers, the government, FKE and

COTU to establish a procedure for dialogue in cases where disputes arise. This enhances

favorable working environment that will in return bring about positive effects on the

organization's performance in terms of productivity, which ultimately is the measuring stick to

an organizations success.
