Beginning of Genocide
The Sudause government under the rule of Omar Al Bashir began the genocide of the people of Darfur.
They wanted to ethnically cleanse the tribes of Darfur

Classification: Black Africans vs. Arab Africans.
Symbolization: Skin color was the most significant symbolization
Dehumanization : Darfurians were kept as slaves

Organization: Janjaweed had tanks and were heavily armed. They had strategic planning as to what village they would attack
Polarization: Al Bashir said he would protect the black africans but obviously did not. They also did not make it very easy for humanitarian groups to help. Because of this many died of starvation and disease.

Preparation: Many people were put into refuge camps
Extermination: Villages were burned and looted and the people terrorized and killed.
Denial: The Sudanese gives false evidence of the amount of people killed and still continue to reject accusations of genocide
Global Response
Between June and December 2004, the UN Security Council became more deeply engaged with Darfur. They called for a political agreement to end the fighting, gave the government of Sudan 30 days to disarm the Janjawid and start bringing its leaders to justice,

In 2009 Bashir , the Janjaweed leader , and Saudese minister of state , Ahmad Haron were issued arrest warants
