And often individuals will drive right through the apparition because it is too late to slam on the brakes. A few individuals tell of seeing them selves standing in the highway. ("Milwaukee Area Paranormal Investigations") Slide 8 Slide 9 The Waverly Hills Sanatorium began with a two-story frame building, with a hipped roof and half timbering. Construction on this building began in 1908, and it opened on July 26, 1910. This building was only designed to safely accommodate 40-50 tuberculosis patients. Waverly functioned as a tuberculosis hospital until 1961. After antibiotics were invented, it was closed down to be quarantined and renovated to be opened again in 1962 as WoodHaven Medical Services. The facility remained a geriatrics center until 1980, when it was closed by the state. ("www.therealwaverlyhills.com") ("www.paravizionz.com") Slide 10 ("www.therealwaverlyhills.com") Slide 11 Room 502 - is the subject of a local myth about a suicide which is said to have occurred in the room; a nurse who is said to have been pushed or jumped out the window. According to the owners of Waverly Hills, the death of another nurse, Mary Hillenburg, occurred on the fifth floor of the Sanatorium. She was pregnant with the illegitimate child of a doctor at the sanatorium. It is unknown whether she committed suicide or was assisted in her death, but it is known that it was the product of an "abortion gone wrong." She was found hanging from the pipes of the top floor of the hospital, and the aborted fetus was later found in the well system. On the tour of this floor, pregnant woman are known to become nauseous or become victims of severe headaches.
