Can you guess who?Can you guess who?

This person was a new teacher who started at LNHS during the 2008-2009 school year. We asked a lot of this teacher – who agreed to teach not only Biology, but also AP Biology. As a new teacher, taking on any new course is a challenge, but also taking on and having to develop a course like AP Biology is just plain crazy! Ask the teacher – they will agree!

This teacher is coordinating our PLC and PDSA‘s for PE activities. This person has been with us the entire 8 years of LNHS existence.  This teacher has worked in the PE Department in all areas:  9th grade Health and PE, Advanced PE, and Weight Training.  This person often has 3 different levels or courses per semester.  This teacher has just recently been promoted to Head Football Coach and has been Assistant Football Coach and Assistant Track Coach prior to this promotion.

This person teaches US History and Civics and Economics.  This teacher continues to bring in very high scores in both subjects.  This person was the district representative at Raising Achievement for Iredell-Statesville Schools demonstrating their work with the Automated Response System.  This teacher decided to take on the responsibility of Head Cross-Country and the Head Girls Track coach. Being a part of the 4A division this year, this teacher’s coaching skills helped the Cross-Country girls rank 1st and the boys ranked 3rd at the Conference Championships. This is a very outstanding accomplishment for their first year as head coach! This teacher received the Coach of the Year Award also.

This teacher works in a distinct self-contained classroom with students with moderate disabilities.  This person works extremely hard to meet the very individual needs of each of their students. Each student has numerous areas of difficulty which require very individualized education plans.  Working alongside an assistant and student volunteers, this teacher designs instruction that  each student is able to achieve and be successful. Additionally, this person recently achieved the high honor of becoming a National Board Certified Teacher. Their knowledge, professionalism and caring attitude make this person a truly exceptional teacher.

This person is definitely the unsung hero of the LNHS administration. This administrator is dedicated, loyal, and tireless. There is no job this person won't tackle. We all know that when you're in a pinch this administrator is the person to call. This administrator will do the work no one else will do. Another little known fact about this person is that in addition to their role as an assistant principal this person runs a working farm and manages a number of rental properties...making this administrator quite the entrepreneur. This person is also an adept chess player...something they would be happy to share. And, of course, if you need a spreadsheet or database this administrator is the person to call. Beyond their professional life this administrator is a kind-hearted, gentle person with a love for learning.

Fresh new talent and inspiration has joined our fine arts department this year. One new and one veteran teacher offers advanced technical fundamentals not only to the students’ development, but to the depth and longevity of our fine arts program. Their attitude is that they joined a distinguished level school with exemplary students from which this person believes our students should have a well-rounded artistic experience with a competitive portfolio to match. This opinion is contagious among department members.

This person’s students’ work portrays an introspective layering of technical fundamentals. Being new to LNHS, students did not know what to think at first. “An elective with rigor and results that demand a bell to bell work ethic?” Most have decided to take round two of this artistic journey. This person feels that the students step up to the demands of the class through clearly defined expectations and work that proves it’s all worth it.

Even though our CTE Department is packed full of excellent teachers, we can only highlight one of them for this presentation. This person is a “ray of sunshine” addition to our CTE Department as a Business Education Teacher! This teacher became very involved with LNHS and with their students beginning from “day one” at LNHS. This teacher serves on a PLC, helps with the parking lot traffic, creates interesting Computer Applications I student activities, and goes the extra mile to help their students to be successful. This person has a wonderful ability to connect with their students. This teacher not only teaches computer skills to their students, but also teaches them valuable interpersonal skills by being an excellent example of how to relate to people. If you are having a stressful day, go visit this teacher’s smiling face and their delightful personality will relieve your stress!

This teacher holds their students to high standards. This person understands the true difference in academic and honors classes. This teacher is dedicated to their students and proves this by working with them before and after school. This person has introduced new technologies into the classroom and has helped fellow teachers utilize them. This teacher is always willing to help a peer.

This person is an amazing teacher.   This teacher has taught AP, Honors and Academic courses for numerous years, occasionally, all at the same time.  This person is constantly educating themselves to ensure they keep up with the curriculum and new teaching trends by taking summer courses or professional development conferences. This year I believe this teacher has stood out because they have taken on a stronger professional persona.  This teacher has taken on the responsibility of the 12th Grade PLC Chair.  This teacher has also become more vocal about how standards should be met and kept within the English Department and School.  This person has helped teachers within the department with unit, lesson, and assessment strategies, plans and goals.  This person is very dedicated to enhancing student achievement as is evident by the hordes of students in their room at all hours of the day. This teacher always seems to be running to a parent conference, tutoring session, or their weekly duty in the commons.  These are just a few reasons why this teacher is nominated as a family, community, and career Leader of the English Department.
