What is Women’s Rights? Women wanted independence and to be entitled to

their own opinions. Some different right’s women wanted were voting

and working right’s. All women wanted to be treated equally. They wanted the same rights as men. Women wanted to join the military and go to school. Women wanted to be treated like human beings.

Leaders of Women's Rights Susan B Anthony and

Elizabeth Cady Stanton formed the National Women Suffrage Association.

First formed in New York on May 15,1869.

This league was created for the purpose of obtaining voting rights for women.

Women used protests and petitions to show their views.

Opposed 15th Amendment.

Amendments Section 1 - States that every one should have equal

rights no matter the sex or race. Section 2 - States that Congress is in charge. Section 3 - States that it takes two years to ratify.

Alice Paul believed that an Amendment was needed to ensure women’s rights .

She believed every citizen should have equal rights. The Equal Rights Amendment was passed in 1972.

Facts

Colorado was the first State to allow women to vote.

Utah and Idaho let women vote in 1876. The Federal Woman Suffrage Amendment

was written by Susan Anthony and went to Congress in 1878.

Wyoming passed the first women’s suffrage law.

The national trade union helped women get payed equally as men.

Women’s Human Rights Women should be respected. Protected Rights - 14th Amendment Have equal opportunities same as men . Not be discriminated on account of Race - Should not be discriminated

because of color. Sex - Should not be discriminated

because of being male or female.

Declaration of Sediments A document signed by men and

women in 1848. About 68 women and 32 men signed. Convention held in Seneca New York. The woman who was responsible for

this declaration was Elizabeth Cady Stanton.

Discussed major issues on women’s rights.

Helped women to get equal rights.

Why we need Equal Amendments? Employment- Women can get

Jobs and make a living.

Reproductive Rights- help people with health care

Insurance and Pensions - in risk regulation and finances, is a form of risk management primarily used to evade against the risk of a subject loss.

Education - women can go to school and get degrees

Women’s Movements

The National Trade Union helped women get more jobs and get paid more.

The National Women Suffrage Association helped women get the right to vote.

The Women's Bureau of the Department of

Labor was formed so women could have better working conditions.

Equal Pay Act - It was illegal to pay a woman less than a man for the same job.

The Pregnancy Women's Act- made discrimination illegal against pregnant women.

Title IX of the Education Amendment - bans sex discrimination in schools.

More About The Women Right’s Movement

Betty Friedan also formed a national women’s organization.

California was first state to declare no fault divorce.

Gloria Steinem was a woman who also helped with women’s rights.

The Supreme Court declares legal abortion because of Roy vs. Wade.

EEOC- sex segregated want ads are illegal.

President Lyndon B. Johnson’s affirmative action policy was based on discrimination.

Women’s Parks National Women’s Historical

Park is located in New York. It celebrates Women

recognition in our society. The National Women’s

Historical Park gives tours of the house of Elizabeth Stanton year round.

It also includes the Wesleyan Chapel first convention.

The park includes a vision center and educational items of the history of women’s culture.

It is important because it is part of the women’s suffrage heritage.
