About Blas Now in our 8th year, Blas na hEireann, The Irish Food Awards is the biggest competition for quality Irish produce on the island of Ireland. Last year over 2,000 Irish products were entered into the competition to win Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in over 90 food and drink categories as well as key awards such as Supreme Champion and Best Artisan Producer.

A trusted accreditation and mark of Irish quality Research has shown that the Blas accreditation has the highest recognition amongst Irish consumers and using the award logo on packs encourages shoppers to buy these products. It is their guarantee of a top quality Irish product.

Our JudgesOur judges come from a range of food backgrounds; they are chefs, restaurateurs, academics, journalists, authors, food champions, caterers and enthusiastic home cooks. Producers and retailers who have entered the competition are never involved in the judging process.

Finding the very bestDeveloped with UCC and the University of Copenhagen our judging process is now recognised as an industry ‘gold’ standard worldwide. Products entered are blind tasted and competition is extremely tough, and regardless of the number of entries there are only five finalists in each category.Blind tasting means that all packaging and identifying features are removed from products before being presented for judging. This creates a level playing field for products from both large and small producers.

Neven Maguire was awarded the inaugural 2014 Producers Champion Award following the results of Blas 2014 Producer Power Survey which asked our wide network of producers who had inspired them most.

I was very proud to be involved with this year’s awards and to be presented with the Producers Champion Award was so special.

It totally re-instates my belief in the great artisan products we have here in Ireland.

I was so impressed with how fair the judging process was and I can see why these are the top food awards in Ireland.
