A school council is one way of giving pupils a voice and encouraging them to participate fully in and identify with the life of the school. It is also an opportunity to put many of their thinking skills and personal capabilities into practice

“Allowing ourselves to be heard!”

We want the students in Buxton school to have a chance to express themselves and have their voices heard.

We want to give students who have something to say, but wouldn’t put their selves up a chance to let their voices be heard.

The school council has always been involved in the development

of citizenship skills, but with the introduction of the "Buxton Voices", the development of these lifelong skills has

become more sharpened and focused.

The pupils learn to:

1. Discuss

2. Listen to others

3. Communicate

4. Share opinions

5. Use critical thinking

6. Reach agreements

A NEW BEGINNING⦿We think that the school council is out-dated. ⦿We needed something new, so we decided to

re-create the school council and give it more meaning.

⦿We came up with a few names , but since it is the student’s voice, we did a survey asking the students what the name should be.

OUT OF THE 300 STUDENTS & STAFF WE ASKED:

As you can see, Buxton Voice had the majority vote, but we have decided to rename it Buxton Voices as we think that this is more effective; this implies a community of voices.
